About the Job

The objective of the position is to support the ongoing research in the Bielczyk-Maczynska research group at The Hormel Institute in the summer of 2026 for 12 weeks on a full-time basis. The employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.

Focus of Job Responsibilities

Ongoing Research - 50%

* Implementation of hypothesis-driven research projects by conducting experiments.

Lab Maintenance - 25%

* Prepare and maintain common laboratory reagents and solutions.
* Perform sterilization of equipment and maintain compliance with laboratory safety standards.
* Organize and maintain laboratory workspace, equipment, and inventory.
* Order the necessary supplies needed for the lab.
* Perform and stay up to date with equipment maintenance.

Other - 25%

* Perform detailed analysis and quality review of experimental data to ensure accuracy.
* Conduct reviews of scientific literature.
* Present research findings and data trends during internal briefings.
* Participating in training.
* Participate in meetings with the research group and the PI.

Flexible Work Profile
The Research and Innovation Office (RIO) and The Hormel Institute endorses a "work with flexibility" approach that offers a welcoming and flexible work environment where everyone is inspired to do their best. Work location options include working fully remote, partially remote, or entirely in the office and are based on the work of the position. Some on-site work may be necessary for certain positions, even those designated as fully remote. This position has been designated as eligible for Flexible Work Profile One.
Flexible Work Profile One, Office/Lab-Based - is expected to work primarily on-site in the office/lab. Only occasionally and inconsistently working remotely. Your office will be located at The Hormel Institute in Austin, Minnesota. The Hormel Institute management retains the right to modify flexible work arrangement agreements on a temporary or permanent basis for any reason at any time.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in biology, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or a related scientific field.

Preferred Qualifications

* Prior experience working in a biomedical research environment.
* Ability to learn and incorporate new methods.
* Strong oral and written skills.
* Ability to work independently.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $16.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Student workers are eligible to participate in the Student Health Benefit Plan, if they maintain 6 or more eligible course credits within a given semester. The same applies for Undergraduate Students, Graduate Assistants, Residents, Fellows and Interns.
