Description

The Children's Home of Poughkeepsie has been caring for children throughout the Hudson Valley for over 175 years! We strive to empower children and families to achieve optimal health and well being. We are currently seeking an Overnight Youth Counselors to work in our Empower Program.



Position Summary:

The Overnight Youth Counselor is responsible for the awake supervision of the children, meeting children's night-time needs, breakfast and morning routines, safety and security of the children and building, light housekeeping duties and the general welfare of persons and property during night hours.



Essential Functions and Responsibilities:



  1. Provides awake supervision of all youth in assigned units.
  2. Provides trauma-responsive care that is sensitive to and supportive of the children's cultural and ethnic heritage and values.
  3. Assists youth with personal needs during the night period, including comforting with night fears, monitoring youth who are ill, etc.
  4. Maintains confidentiality of the program and youth residing within the program.
  5. Is responsible for the safety and security of the youth, buildings and property under their supervision.
  6. Must make documented rounds every thirty (30) minutes. May be required to complete rounds on a more frequent basis if instructed by supervisory staff.
  7. Answers phones, records messages, contacts appropriate supervisory staff as needed.
  8. Performs light housekeeping duties.
  9. Assists in conducting overnight fire drills and evacuates buildings in case of fire. Completes fire drill report at the completion of the drill.
  10. Awakens youth, supervises/prepares breakfast and provides awake supervision until relieved.
  11. May be required to transport youth in agency vehicles.
  12. Establishes a positive attitude and is an appropriate adult role model with pro-social values that support the goals and mission of the agency.
  13. Participates in trauma-informed care through the agency's programs, including but not limited to Sanctuary training.
  14. Is required to attend all mandatory training as scheduled, including but not limited to New Hire Orientation, Sanctuary, TCI certifications and CPR/First Aid certifications.
  15. Completes thorough and accurate documentation within required timeframes.
  16. Fulfills Mandated Reporter responsibilities according to NYS Justice Center and OCFS regulations.
  17. Is familiar with and adheres to all agency policies and procedures as outlined in the Child Care Manual, Employee Handbook, and Risk Management Program Manual.



Schedule

Wednesday-Friday, Every other Saturday 10pm-8am, Sunday-Tuesday OFF.

Qualifications

MINIMUM Qualifications:



  • High School Degree or equivalent.
  • Valid New York State Driver's License with good driving record as determined by the Agency.



PREFERRED Qualifications:



  • Associates or Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience working with youth in a residential setting
