JOB TITLE Infrastructure Technician I JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The Infrastructure Technician serves as a core member of the IT Infrastructure team, reporting to the Director of IT Infrastructure Services. This role involves close collaboration with Engineers and student workers to ensure robust operation and continuous enhancement of the University's IT infrastructure. Responsibilities include the physical installation, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a wide range of IT infrastructure, including low-voltage cabling, data center operations, Microsoft 365 management, server administration, and network administration. The Infrastructure Technician actively monitors and responds to service requests, resolves complex issues, contributes to strategic projects, and participates in on-call rotation. This position also involves guiding student workers and proactively engaging in professional development to continually enhance departmental expertise and effectiveness.

  • Respond to service requests and incidents submitted by users and/or help desk staff, ensuring timely resolution of network-related issues. Utilize various IT infrastructure monitoring tools to observe performance, respond to alerts, and resolve issues proactively. Participate in weekly on-call rotation schedules to provide after-hours support for critical issues.
  • Perform hands-on physical installation, deployment, maintenance, and upgrades of infrastructure components, including but not limited to low-voltage cabling, cameras, wireless access points, network switches, phones, battery backups (UPS), servers, and other related physical hardware.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, configurations, and deployment procedures.
  • Collaborate with and guide student workers, ensuring their effective assistance and proper execution of tasks during projects and daily operations.
  • Conduct vulnerability remediation and patching of software and operating systems.
  • Proactively pursue opportunities to learn new systems and technologies, share knowledge, and partner with team members to continually enhance departmental expertise and effectiveness.
  • Perform all other duties assigned to support department and University objectives.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power drills, ladders, and lifts. Ability to terminate RJ-45 connectors and punch down patch panels.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and Wi-Fi).
  • Ability to diagnose a problem by breaking it down and finding the root cause.
  • Familiarity with command line interfaces (CLI) or a strong willingness to learn Linux and Cisco IOS.
  • Understanding of basic scripting/programming such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft solutions such as Microsoft 365, EntraID, Windows Server, and Active Directory.
  • Ability to effectively utilize artificial intelligence (AI).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to both team members and non-technical users.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours to implement changes and solutions to limit impact/exposure to users.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Relevant experience (this can include part-time work, internships, or a documented, high-level home-lab environment).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in a similar role.
  • CompTIA A+ and/or Network+ certification.
PHYSICAL DEMAND AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical requirements include regular lifting and carrying of 5 to 70 pounds, frequent use of ladders and lifts, and occasional digging. This role requires sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions. This role also requires visual acuity, speech, and hearing, as well as the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. The position will involve working outdoors on some days.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • This position requires a criminal background check, which will include a Level II screening as required by Florida Statute *435.04.
  • This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: This position is salaried and exempt. The normal work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; however, occasional after-hours work (evenings, weekends, and holidays) may be required. Local travel between university locations and local vendors may be required. Occasionally, travel to professional events and conferences may be required. This position is eligible for a flexible work schedule.

TARGET HIRING SALARY & BENEFITS: $57,800-$62,900. Benefits include medical, personal, and parental leave, paid holidays, State of Florida health insurance, and retirement plans.
