SUMMARY

Perform a variety of electrical trade functions in the installation, maintenance and/or repair of equipment and distribution power systems. Incumbent will also perform HVAC and boiler maintenance and repair at County facilities, as required. Position requires on call twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Electrical Requirements:

  • Incumbent installs, modifies, repairs, trouble shoots, loads and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment.
  • Some of the duties involved are secondary distribution lines and circuits used to supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase and frequency requirements, distribution panels, switchgear, power and control circuits, electrical wiring, detection, and fire alarm systems and high intensity lighting systems.
  • Uses building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and lay-out the routing, placement type, sizes, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and proper and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems and controls.
  • Installs, modifies, repairs, loads and tests systems, circuits and devices.
  • Determines, arranges, places and routes wiring to and from panels, boxes, circuits, fittings, connections and controls.
  • Determines and installs wiring, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices in the size, type, and arrangement needed for proper and safe operation.

HVAC Requirements:

  • Starts, operates, adjusts, stops and maintains boilers, feed water system, pumps, valves, pipes and controls either manually or through electronic controls/computer consoles.
  • Observes meters and gauges, adjusts and controls pressure, temperature and water levels.
  • Make continuous inspections of equipment and controls to ensure efficient performance. Identifies, locates and repairs sources of trouble to prevent damage to the systems.
  • Chemically tests and treats boiler water. Performs preventative maintenance, repairs, cleanings, packing, adjustments, lubricate, replacements of equipment, piping, valves, re-bricking, lagging and associated construction.
  • Maintain and service all types of air conditioners, circulating pumps, cooling towers, compressors, condensers, evaporators and all necessary components for the efficient operation of air and heating conditioning systems.
  • Perform necessary preventive maintenance: changing filters, cleaning, lubrication, inspection and service of mechanical and electrical parts of the air conditioning system.
  • Use and interpret tools gauges and instruments necessary for troubleshooting, maintaining and servicing of the air conditioning system.
  • Maintain and control cooling water treatment as specified for the proper use of the air-conditioning system.
  • Set-up and maintain the proper temperature balance of air-conditioning units which operate year-round with the proper relationship of heating and cooling.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Valid PA driver's license.
  • Knowledge of how to run and bend rigid, EMT, wire mold and green field of all sizes.
  • Knowledge of how to install, run and service MC and feeder cables.
  • Knowledge of all proper grounding procedures.
  • Knowledge of working floor duct system.
  • Knowledge of fishing wiring in walls and ceilings.
  • Ability to estimate jobs for time and materials.
  • Current in knowledge of size, type, pole amount, amperage and voltage capacities of all types of circuit breakers.
  • Mechanical skills, knowledge of chemical water treatment and pneumatic controls.
  • Computer literate.
  • Well organized and detail-oriented.
  • Good inter-personal, oral and written communication skills.
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Knowledge of boiler plant equipment and systems including the use of alternate fuels.
  • Ability to make decisions under emergency conditions.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, technical manuals, operating manuals and codes.
  • Ability to understand technical literature, prints, drawings and tables (curves, graphs) pertinent to the equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to lift fifty (50) lb. objects intermittently.

  • Ability to work off ladders, scaffolds and motorized man-lift in pits and tunnels.Job may require lifting, pulling and pushing equipment.

  • Ability to work in confined spaces and in varying degrees of temperature. Exposure to high levels of equipment noise.
