San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is an international, nonprofit conservation organization with two front doors: the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. We integrate wildlife health and care, science, and education to develop sustainable conservation solutions.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION The Information Systems team supports the technology infrastructure and enterprise applications that power the operations of San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. The Systems Intern will assist with the administration, monitoring, and improvement of systems that support critical organizational functions including ticketing, payment processing, integrations, reporting, and infrastructure operations.

The intern will work closely with the Systems Analyst team to support daily IT operations, assist with system implementations and upgrades, and help troubleshoot technical issues across multiple departments. This role provides hands-on experience working with enterprise systems in a dynamic environment while supporting SDZWA's mission to end extinction and connect people with wildlife through conservation.

The Systems Intern reports to the Information Systems team and will collaborate with internal departments including Finance, Marketing, Membership, Guest Services, and Information Security.

WHAT YOU WILL DO



  • Assist with daily operational support of enterprise IT systems in a 24x7 environment
  • Monitor incoming IT support communications, including phone calls and team email inboxes, documenting requests and routing them to appropriate team members
  • Assist with troubleshooting technical issues related to enterprise applications, devices, and system integrations
  • Support the administration and operational support of ticketing, point-of-sale (POS), and payment processing systems
  • Assist with testing, configuration, and deployment of hardware and software used in operational environments
  • Monitor system performance, logs, and alerts to help identify and resolve operational issues
  • Document technical processes, system configurations, and support procedures
  • Collaborate with internal departments to support operational technology needs and system improvements
  • Assist with reporting, data validation, and operational system monitoring
  • Perform special assignments and technical projects as required while supporting the mission of San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance


WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS



  • High School Graduate Required
  • Some college-level courses Required



SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE



  • Interest and foundational knowledge in Information Technology and enterprise systems
  • Basic understanding of networking, system administration, and application architecture
  • Familiarity with operating systems, databases, or enterprise software environments desirable
  • Interest in troubleshooting, system integrations, and enterprise application support
  • Ability to analyze technical issues and assist with problem resolution
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and adapt to a dynamic work environment
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in automation, monitoring tools, and system optimization preferred
  • Ability to apply academic knowledge to real-world technology operations

About The Salary Ranges


The posted salary range represents the full compensation potential for this role over time. Initial hiring offers are typically made within the lower to mid portion of the range and are based on a combination of relevant experience, skills, qualifications, internal equity, and organizational considerations. Placement near the top of the range is generally reserved for individuals who demonstrate sustained performance, growth, and expanded responsibilities in the role over time.
