Entry to Mid-Level Safety Coordinator

S&ME is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic full-time entry to mid-level Safety Coordinator to become part of our Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) team in one of our Region 3 locations (New Albany, Evansville, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Columbus, or Lexington). As an entry- to mid-level Safety Coordinator, you will implement, evaluate, and sustain HSE improvement programs aimed at preventing occupational injuries and illnesses, minimizing environmental impacts, and mitigating operational hazards and risks across our locations. This role often involves working with all locations, managers, and staff within Region 3.

Your Day-to-Day:



  • Regional HSE Leadership: Lead and manage the regional HSE program, partnering with regional leadership, Office Principals, and service-line leaders to promote a strong safety culture and drive toward zero incidents.
  • Safety Program Oversight: Evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs, policies, and procedures, and implement improvements to enhance performance and achieve HSE objectives.
  • Site Inspections & Risk Mitigation: Conduct regular site safety inspections and produce clear, actionable reports that identify hazards and recommend effective solutions.
  • Field Engagement & Coaching: Build strong working relationships with supervisors and field personnel, coaching employees on safe work practices in compliance with federal, state, and company standards.
  • Training & Incident Response: Support safety training initiatives, facilitate safety meetings, and lead incident and injury/illness investigations with thorough documentation and follow-up.


To be a successful HSE Coordinator, you should be able to work independently, provide quick response support for unplanned events, and be knowledgeable in Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) or Human and Organizational Performance (HOP). Additionally, you should maintain safe personal practices and a clean driving record, and be capable of supporting project and safety teams within the organization.

What You Bring:



  • At least a year of hands-on experience in a construction and/or environmental site safety, or risk management role
  • A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management/Insurance, or related field, a plus
  • OSHA 500, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), and First Aid/CPR/AED instructor certifications are a plus
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA with an emphasis in Construction or Environmental Remediation
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • The ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations, to clients, contractor teams, and other employees of the organization



Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as:



  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions outside normal business hours, such as weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs,
  • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as needed
