THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is seeking a full-time seasonal Park Maintenance Worker to support Black Moshannon State Park. This position performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair work across a variety of trades-including building, mechanical, and electrical-at the sub-journey level to ensure park facilities remain safe, functional, and welcoming for visitors.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will perform a wide range of semi-skilled maintenance and repair duties to support the facilities, grounds, equipment, and natural resources of Black Moshannon State Park. Your work helps ensure the park remains safe, clean, functional, and welcoming for all visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and sanitize cabins, restrooms, pavilions, and other park buildings, including mopping floors, scrubbing showers, removing trash, and picking up litter.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs, and assist skilled trades staff with carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, masonry, painting, and general building upkeep.
  • Maintain park grounds by mowing and trimming turf, preparing soil, pruning and transplanting trees, operating chainsaws, assisting with invasive species control, and maintaining trails.
  • Support maintenance of water, plumbing, and sewage systems, including clearing drains, repairing faucets, winterizing systems, and assisting with treatment plant operations.
  • Conduct basic vehicle maintenance such as checking fluids, greasing fittings, changing filters, and performing simple body repairs.
  • Operate and maintain hand and power tools safely and effectively while keeping work areas clean and organized.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities, vehicle use, fuel, and other required reports.
  • Lead volunteers on assigned projects and provide general park information to visitors when needed.
  • Assist in emergency responses, including lost-person searches and fire suppression, following established procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support park operations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment approximately March 2027.
  • Work shifts/days vary, will work 5 days/37.5 hours per week to include weekends and holidays if needed.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
