Under the Supervision of the Dean of General Education, to teach Sociology courses and other related courses as assigned. May require teaching courses at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, and online during the day, evening, and/or weekend. Related duties to include in-person (unless otherwise scheduled) participation in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development in both traditional and non-traditional formats.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Only those who meet all of the base minimum requirements listed below will be considered.

Minimum Educational Requirements:

Must have one of the following

  • Must have a master's degree or higher in Sociology, OR;
  • Master's degree in a related field* with at least 18 GRADUATE level coursework credits in Sociology:

*Related Fields include but are not limited to: Cultural Anthropology; Political Science, Woman's Studies; Urban Studies; African American Studies; Asian American Studies; Gender Studies; Criminal Justice; Human Geography; Demography; Public Health, Statistics; Public Policy Administration; Cultural Foundations of Education; Social History; Social Psychology; Urban Education; Human Development and Social Policy.

Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the minimums listed above
  • Verifiable occupational work experience in a field other than education.
  • Experience in teaching, using, and/or developing curriculum in a variety of classroom environments including face-to-face, blended, and 100% online.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching introductory college sociology or other social science classes.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

Experience with or willingness to learn the following supportive technologies:
  • Online Information Management Systems (e.g. Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters)
  • Blackboard Ultra - Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systems
  • Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology
  • Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (e.g. social networking applications)

Supplemental Information

Start Date: This position supports the General Education Pathway and is available to start during the fall 2026 (August start) semester.

Hours: This position is full-time. Full-time faculty are assigned a minimum workload of 32 hours per week. Course load and schedule will depend on course availability. Work schedule could include in person, online, hybrid, daytime, evening, and weekend teaching assignments. Full-time faculty positions include in-person participation in teaching and non-teaching duties and assigned off-campus instruction (including but not limited to community education, workforce solutions, and dual enrollment) based upon College need. All work must be conducted in the state of Wisconsin.

  • Instructional Modality: In-person, online, and/or hybrid

  • Teaching Times: Daytime, evening, and/or weekend classes

Salary: This full-time faculty annual salary is determined based on the individual's education and years of relevant experience and is assigned to the appropriate salary class and step in accordance with the applicable salary schedule. Compensation is prorated based on start date.

Interview: As part of the interview process, selected candidates are required to prepare and present an interactive theory lesson and simulated teaching demonstration lasting 10 minutes of the overall interview time, which may be conducted in-person or virtually.
