DESCRIPTION

The Senior Accountant serves as a technical expert with advanced knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial reporting. This role is responsible for performing complex accounting functions, including monthly and year-end close processes, account reconciliations, and financial analysis to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data.

Working with a high degree of autonomy, the incumbent independently prepares and reviews journal entries, maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts, and applies advanced accounting principles to resolve complex and non-routine issues. This position regularly analyzes financial information from multiple sources, identifies discrepancies or trends, and develops recommendations to support sound financial decision-making.

The Senior Accountant is expected to exercise strong judgment in selecting appropriate methods and techniques, particularly in situations that require interpretation of policies or lack clear precedent. The role also supports the development of processes, reporting tools, and financial analyses, and may contribute to broader programmatic or operational initiatives.

This position interacts with internal and external stakeholders, including leadership, on matters of significance, and prepares ad hoc reports, analyses, and presentations to support departmental and organizational objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting plus five (5) years of related experience/training.

  • Advanced knowledge of accounting function.

  • Ability to extract, verify, and compile accounting information from multiple sources to complete work assignments.

  • Advanced ability to effectively present complex accounting and finance related information verbally and in writing.

  • Advance experience using financial transactions and systems, as well as related policy, accounting, and unique regulatory compliance requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of common desktop / web applications.

  • Advanced knowledge of analytical procedures used in accounting project of complex scope.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in hospital / healthcare accounting. Familiarity with accounting for hospital contractual deductions.

  • Large business accounting experience and/or Health care system accounting system experience.

  • Strong analytical skills, experience in application of analytical techniques and procedures used in accounting projects of moderate to semi-complex scope.

  • Experience with Oracle accounting software and familiarity with automated patient accounting/billing systems, such as Epic.

  • Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Excel, such as the utilization of Pivot Tables and V-Lookups.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $88,000 - $161,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $42.15 - $77.39

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
