GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Radiology Office Assistant - Radiology provides clerical and receptionist support to help facilitate the provision of patient care services. Handles and protects confidential patient information and maintains the physical environment of the work area. Maintains Radiology film files and accesses PACS to distribute images to physicians as requested. Accurately enters patient data into the computer, maintaining patient records and record accessibility; greets/interacts with patients, physicians, co-workers and the general public to obtain and provide information as needed. Performs QA on Radiology Reports to ensure data integrity.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

2. *Interacts and communicates with physicians, support staff and other health care professionals to facilitate department operations.
3. *Receives and greets patients using AIDET. Screens, and directs patients, physicians, visitors, vendors, and Medical Center personnel; provides accurate responses in a friendly, helpful and courteous manner.
4. *Competently utilizes department computer systems to include EHR and PACS; retrieves images in PACS for physician viewing and for printing CD's or film for outside physicians; retrieves, views and updates patient information in EHR as required.
5. Collaborates with Radiology modalities and other departments to coordinate exams and treatments, minimizing fragmentation and enhancing patient satisfaction.
6. *Answers the telephone in a prompt and courteous manner; transfers calls/pages to appropriate personnel and takes phone messages accurately and completely.
7. Responsible for picking up and delivering mail from mailroom.
8. Collaborates with HIM on patient requests for release of information while adhering to HIPAA requirements.
9. Maintains organization and filing of the patient exam requisitions per department protocols.
10. Manages Radiology Film Archive by purging old film jackets per Radiology retention policy.
11. *Enters Radiology orders into the computer accurately and consistently according to department protocols.
12. Provides Radiology results to physicians or designated health care professionals as appropriate.
13. * Maintains confidential environment when communicating patient information.
14. Receives requests for Radiologist to re-review images.
15. Receives requests to merge images from outside facilities with Bryan images to facilitate a comprehensive imaging record for our patients.
16. * Validates Radiology charges daily by comparing reports from department and hospital systems.
17. Provides support to meet MQSA requirements for Mammography patients. Duties include sending out letters to mammography patients, and when necessary, personally contacting patients who need to return for additional imaging.
18. Performs QA of Radiology reports. Verifies documentation is in the Radiology report to support charges.
19. Reviews impressions on all CT Thoracic reports and identifies patients who need additional follow up. Forwards patient information to appropriate staff for further review.
20. Processes required paperwork for patients on disability to ensure reimbursement.
21. Processes reports required to be mailed when the specialized format is not compatible with automated system of sending results.
22. Provides clerical support to Cancer Registrars with the follow up duties.
23. Assists with orienting staff and students in office procedures.
24. Performs clerical functions and related duties as appropriate including but not limited to: filing, photocopying, maintaining patient logs, generating reports, maintaining department records, and miscellaneous general office duties.
25. Advances work knowledge by participating in continuing education in-services, and seeking ongoing development opportunities; attends departmental, educational and hospital committee meetings as required.
26. Stocks office supplies as needed.
27. Periodically accesses locked storage areas (where drugs and biologicals are also stored) to obtain or stock supplies as pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
28. *Receives/identifies/prioritizes/processes Radiology requisitions.
29. Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalency required. Previous hospital experience in a clerical or technical position preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology desired. Attention to detail.
