Biomedical Engineer Specialist - San Juan Capistrano, CA, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

The Biomedical Engineering Specialist (BMES) is responsible for the proper operation, repair, Preventive Maintenance (PM), installation and deinstallation and Lifecycle Management of assigned Laboratory equipment. Ensuring the equipment uptime will support 24/7 operations. The role requires expertise in repair of specific complex Laboratory robotic equipment/ instrumentation, including but not limited to LCMS, Liquid Handlers, Hematology analyzers, automated sorters, aliquoters, HPLC and other similarly highly complex Instrumentation. Additional duties include the calibration and PM of test equipment, inventory control, training less experienced team members, accurate and timely documentation practices. The BMES works with BME department leadership to establish daily priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously. The BMES Solves equipment problems quickly and efficiently using all available resources including personal knowledge, experience and expertise, Vendor advanced training and technical manuals. This role requires excellent communication/ interpersonal skills, Excellent Troubleshooting and mechanical inclination and is expected to keep departmental leads and lab management informed of equipment needs and impact on production, including time estimates for equipment repair. Pay range: $76,900 - $138,500 / year

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for calibration, preventive maintenance and repair of all assigned equipment in the laboratory to ensure reliable operations.
  • The BMES will ensure instrumentation is up and functioning at all times to achieve production goals.
  • Works closely with operational teams to provide information, updates, ETA's as needed.
  • Address department priorities asap.
  • Train lessor experienced techs and resolve the more complex problems and repairs.
  • Provide proactive maintenance suggestions and implement them and monitor the effectiveness.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with all levels of personnel when servicing equipment, inform Managers/ Supervisors of equipment needs and expected down time/ return to service time estimates.
  • Establish daily priorities and manage multiple projects.
  • Provide timely responses to internal customers and management requests.


Qualifications:

Required work experience

  • Minimum 7+ years of directly related complex lab instrumentation experience
  • Minimum 2-3 years of hands-on experience working with automated/robotic instrumentation.
  • A proven track record of successful maintenance on complex diagnostic clinical systems.
  • Experience with volume verification, test equipment, related tools, meters and devices,
  • Experienced in working with voltage AC/DC and electronic circuitry.

Preferred Work Experience:

  • Basic understanding of automation programming and methods.
  • Ability to write basic test methods is a plus.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity adequate to handle small tools requiring intricate manipulations of small pieces in confined areas.
  • Must be able to differentiate between color coded wires and interpret visual readouts. Must pass color blindness screening.
  • Must be able to react to auditory warnings and messages.
  • Will be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Will require prolonged period of standings in addition to bending, stooping, reaching & squatting.

Knowledge:

  • Basic understanding of chemistry, hematology and similar sciences.
  • Extensive knowledge of Calibration and PM requirements related to various system.
  • Experienced with CMMS.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and implement Proactive Maintenance programs to minimize equipment downtime/ maximize instrument availability. Also understand the difference between proactive verses preventive maintenance.

Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving troubleshooting skills, critical thinker
  • Proficient in reading electrical/ electronic schematics to isolate a problem and determine a root cause.
  • Proficient in reading mechanical drawings to isolate a problem and determine a root cause.
  • Excellent communication skills written and verbal
  • Proficient in MS office products
  • Proficient in one or more asset Reliability processes. (FMEA, RCFA, etc.)

Education

High school diploma with 15+ years direct experience.

Associate's Degree in a related field with 7+ years direct experience.

Bachelor's Degree in a related field with 5+ years direct experience.

Master's Degree in Biomedical / Electrical Engineering, with 2-3 years of hands-on experience.

Manufacture training certification on laboratory equipment or systems is a plus.
