Middle School Guidance Counselor
Anticipated for 26-27 school year"
Qualifications:
- Minimum four year degree with PA certification for Guidance Counseling.

Job Goal:
To counsel students with personal problems and/or education concerns to facilitate increased learning and personal potential.. He/she shall work with students, parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and resource people to try to improve the individual student’s education experience and become productive citizens.
Performance Responsibilities:

- Advise and provide information to parents/guardians and teachers
- Collect information for special reports from teachers, students and records.
- Assist students filling out application forms for school, financial aid and jobs.
- Write recommendations on behalf of students for colleges, technical schools, scholarships, special awards and military service.
- Prepare student transcripts for schools, employers, etc.
- Send out applications, transcripts and recommendations to schools and agencies.
- Serve on individualized education program (IEP) teams when deemed appropriate.
- Compile class rank data for all students in grades nine through twelve.
- In September and January, review the records of all seniors to check their progress in meeting graduation requirements. He/she shall talk to any students who may have difficulty meeting graduation requirements and write letters in conjunction with the Senior High Principal, to parent(s)/guardian(s) regarding any such problems.
- Assist the Principal in coordinating and administering the testing program at the Building Levels.
- Coordinate and set up visits of representatives from colleges, technical schools, the military services and private training facilities.
- Call and write schools to set up visitation appointments and testing for students.
- Shall provide information on career areas and schools and administer and interpret interest tests.
- Act as contact person for parents/guardians and students regarding financial aid, educational planning, and student grades and programs.
- Discuss student programs and make recommendations as to what can be done in conjunction with teachers, parents and administration.
- Schedule students in appropriate classes depending on post-secondary plans in conjunction with parents, teachers and administration.
- Work with students on education/vocational post-secondary planning.
- Shall keep abreast of current practices in the field of guidance and counseling through attendance at professional conferences/workshops.
- Shall assist the administration in developing individual student schedules.
- Shall serve as a member of the district’s Student Assistance program.
- Make referrals to outside community agencies when deemed necessary relative to crisis intervention on specific student needs.
- Organize and assist with the adopted school district standardized testing program and Pennsylvania’s standardized assessments.
- Participate in consultations and case conferences with psychologists and other student service personnel.
- Assist the classroom teacher with the referral of students with emotional, social, physical and academic problems.
- Supervise and maintain cumulative records in building grade levels
- Supervise yearly, Academic Achievement Awards and Night of Achievement
- Perform any and all other duties prescribed by the administration.
Specific to Elementary Counselors
- Schedule new students and orient them to the school procedures and the various school opportunities.
- Develop an elementary early intervention program for students entering kindergarten and first grade.
- Schedule and conduct kindergarten registration.
- Teach guidance classes as directed.
- Work with teachers and parents to determine the most appropriate educational path for students having specific needs.
- Conduct intelligence/aptitude testing of students.
- Communicate student records/data to the middle school counselor and principal so a smooth transition occurs between the elementary and middle school.
- Write recommendations for student college admissions and scholarship competitions.
- Promote and process scholarship opportunities.
- Obtain and disseminate occupational information to students and aid students evaluate career interests and choices.
Terms of Employment:
Teacher Contract (with additional days for end of year closure)
Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel, by the building principal.
