**These positions are available in levels 1-3 based on experience, education, and/or certification and licensure**

General Description:

The Mammographer I performs specialized breast imaging services on OU Health patients to aid Providers in the diagnosis, care, treatment and surveillance of breast conditions, defects and/or diseases. This position is intended for those who are gaining experience as a Mammographer or experienced imaging professionals who wish to begin a career in Mammography. Work is typically performed in outpatient environments across OU Health locations.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, performs diagnostic imaging on patients as ordered by a care provider.

  • Ensures testing is performed safely and with the highest quality standards, maintaining a consistent focus on patientcentric care.

  • Prepares patients for procedures and reviews clinical history to align with provider-ordered tests.

  • Responds to inquiries from patients and family members, provides clear information regarding diagnostic testing and expected result timelines.

  • Collaborates with team members across OU Health including Providers to provide exceptional patient care.

  • Utilizes a variety of highly specialized mammography equipment and techniques to perform diagnostic procedures in accordance with established scope of practice guidelines.

  • Conducts post-testing quality reviews to confirm that all required elements are completed, documented and align with departmental and accreditation standards.

  • Transfers images and data to the appropriate electronic health system, enters technical data/findings and prepares study for reporting by physician.

  • Performs quality control checks, cleaning, disinfecting and other equipment maintenance tasks per manufacturer instructions for use and other regulatory guidelines.

  • Ensures that technical quality of testing meets established protocols and applicable accreditation standards.

  • Assists with quality assurance and performance improvement tasks as requested.

  • May support OU Health's academic partnerships by actively engaging in teaching of students in the radiologic program.

  • May serve as a departmental preceptor to provide instruction and mentorship to new or less experienced team members. Assists with onboarding of new team members.

  • Supports inventory tasks as needed to help ensure supplies are available.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Level 1):

Education: Graduate of an accredited imaging/radiology program as defined by ARRT. Completion of JRCERT accredited Military Educational Program is accepted in lieu of other educational requirements.

Experience: 0-3 years of experience.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon hire.

ARRT(RT)(M) required within 1 year of hire.

Minimum Qualifications (Level 2):

Education: Associate's Degree from an accredited imaging/radiology program as defined by ARDMS, ARRT and/or CCI.

Experience: 3-5 years of Mammographer experience required.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon hire.

ARRT(RT)(M) required.

Minimum Qualifications (Level 3):

Education: Associate's Degree from an accredited imaging/radiology program as defined by ARDMS, ARRT and/or CCI.

Experience: At least 5 years of Mammographer experience required.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon hire.

ARRT(RT)(M) required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Skill in applying principles of mammography and/or radiologic technology, medical imaging, medical terminology, positioning of patients, and medical ethics.

  • Demonstrates foundational knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology, basic mammography principles and/or radiologic technology, medical imaging, medical terminology. Applies core mammography theory, practice and techniques to perform examinations and complete basic post-processing analysis, and documentation with general supervision or assistance.

  • Demonstrates clear and respectful verbal and written communication skills to exchange basic information with patients, families, and team members.

  • Ability to prioritize and complete assigned clinical and nonclinical work tasks with guidance and direction, progressively developing independence in managing routine responsibilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and remain composed in stressful situations with guidance and support, progressively developing effective coping and prioritization skills.
