SUMMARY

The Director of Business Development drives product adoption, revenue growth, and market expansion by building strong relationships with specifiers, customers, and strategic partners. This role combines commercial acumen with technical understanding to influence product selection, expand international presence, and identify opportunities for research and innovation. The ideal candidate is proactive, persuasive, and energized by shaping markets.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Engage architects, engineers, consultants, and other specifiers to position MPI's solution in specifications
  • Creates growth strategies, including increased revenue goals, and executes on those strategies
  • Deliver technical presentations, training sessions, and product demonstrations to drive inclusion in project specifications.
  • Identify new business opportunities within existing accounts and emerging market segments.


  • Promotes the MPI brand and acts as a brand ambassador for the company.
  • Manages key accounts and ensures consistent customer satisfaction through regular follow ups and engagement
  • Research trends in the commercial coatings industry and manage product lifecycle management to ensure that MPI is staying ahead of those trends.
  • Research customer needs and trends and uses the information to inform the business and product development strategies.
  • Act as a company representative at trade meetings, conferences, etc., as aligned with sales strategy.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel will be based on what is required to accomplish the assigned tasks. This travel is estimated at up to 30%.



EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor's degree in business, engineering, marketing, communication, or related fields, preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' related experience in a leadership role and in Business and Product Development
  • Proven experience in business development, technical sales, or specification-driven markets.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and persuasively.
  • Technical coatings experience and/or nonprofit experience managing technical committees is a plus.
  • Strong presentation skills to introduce MPI and its products in a professional manner to engineers, purchasing agents, technical and non-technical staff within the asset owner community and federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • Ability to articulate MPI value proposition to industry, mission, programs, products and services to industry leaders and decision makers.



TECHNICAL SKILLS

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM, Financials and budgeting..



LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, members, employees of the organization, customers, and the general public. Fluency in other languages a plus (i.e. Chinese, Spanish, etc.)



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages pertaining to budgets, forecasts, and contractual agreements.



REASONING ABILITY

Ability to creatively solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.



OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Ability to work independently or in a team. Must possess a specific level of communication skills both verbal and written. Ability to work in a multi-task environment considering various external factors and to communicate efficiently and accurately to both managers/supervisors and subordinate staff. Must be detail oriented.



SOFTWARE SKILLS

Must possess advanced computer skills in Project Management skills, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Multi-media Authoring tools and Learning Management Systems. Must have knowledge surrounding SCORM and TinCan methodologies. The ability to use Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline/Studio or other online authoring tools is a plus. Ability to quickly learn and use association specific software.
