DESCRIPTION

The PHSO-PACC Sr. Solution Development Architect is responsible for the enterprise design, integration, governance, and optimization of Epic and related healthcare applications supporting the PHSO-PACC affiliate network. This role provides architectural leadership across internal and external Epic environments, ensuring scalable, secure, and interoperable solutions that align with clinical, operational, and executive strategy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end application architecture design, development, testing, and optimization across Epic and integrated systems.
  • Design and oversee Epic module integration (Ambulatory, Revenue Cycle, Patient Engagement, etc.).
  • Architect Epic-to-external integrations including APIs, HL7, FHIR, and other interoperability frameworks.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, compliance, and infrastructure reliability.
  • Create and maintain architecture documentation, integration standards, testing procedures, and technical guidelines.
  • Develop prototypes, evaluate emerging technologies, and recommend best-use strategies for enterprise growth.
  • Provide advanced technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex integration challenges.
  • Mentor and develop a team of solution architects, QA specialists, and training professionals.
  • Establish and maintain scalable architectural governance frameworks across affiliates.
  • Chair or co-chair internal Epic Clinical Governance meetings to guide extensibility and standardization decisions.
  • Lead Epic Patient Engagement governance forums (MyChart, Open Scheduling, Hello World, Digital Front Door initiatives).
  • Facilitate external governance meetings with affiliate CMIOs, aCMOs, and operational leaders to review integration and build variance requests.
  • Represent PHSO-PACC in Epic vendor discussions, roadmap alignment, and strategic planning sessions.
  • Align architectural decisions with executive leadership priorities including CIO, CFO, and operational stakeholders.
  • Support enterprise growth initiatives including new affiliate onboarding and large-scale Epic expansion projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Eleven (11) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus seven (7) years of related experience/training. Related experience: Healthcare IT application architecture and enterprise system design. Experience in Epic application architecture and integrated solution design and development.

  • Expert knowledge of clinical applications operations, systems, and functions, including planning, design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing and evaluation.

  • Ability to apply expert-level problem-solving skills to issues of the most complex nature, to quickly diagnose problems, and to develop, test, and deploy appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.

  • Expert proficiency in interpersonal communications to effectively train, support, and collaborate productively with clinical users, management, and key stakeholders at all professional and technical levels.

  • Highly-developed skills and expertise in project management, with demonstrated ability to plan and lead teams, prioritize tasks, and direct projects successfully from inception to completion on task and on schedule.

  • Highly skilled in written and verbal communications, to develop written specifications and curricula, and to convey comprehensive technical information and training to all levels of clinical users and staff in a specific, clear, and concise manner

  • Demonstrated analytical skills and expertise in documentation and reporting, with the ability to develop and apply metrics, evaluate new systems and releases, plan and implement testing systems, collect and analyze performance data, and produce comprehensive reports and analysis for management use.

  • Demonstrated ability to serve as an expert resource with broad industry knowledge, to lead teams and work effectively with key personnel and management, and to provide advice and counsel on optimal strategies and policies for improving quality, efficiency, and functionality of clinical information systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Epic certifications and/or proficiencies in EpicAmb, Mychart, Orders, Order Transmittal, ClinDoc, CareEverywhere or Bridges, Access and Security, and Referrals and Authorizations.

  • Deep expertise in Epic EMR ecosystem, module integration, and interoperability frameworks.

  • Strong knowledge of APIs, HL7, FHIR, and healthcare data exchange standards.

  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional governance and architecture review boards.

  • Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into executive-level strategy.

  • Strong documentation, policy development, and technical writing skills.

  • Deep experience with Epic EMR ecosystem and module integration, as well as integration with third party applications via API/HL7/FHIR interfaces.

  • Deep knowledge in Epic data flow, interoperability frameworks and application infrastructure and security.

  • Experience in healthcare IT environments and ambulatory and patient engagement workflows.

  • Experience mentoring and developing high-performing technical teams.

  • Strategic systems thinking and enterprise architecture leadership.

  • Clinical workflow integration expertise.

  • Stakeholder engagement and governance facilitation experience.

  • Scalable solution design for multi-entity healthcare environments.

  • Executive communication and influence experience.
