Senior Project Manager -Stormwater
McAdams is seeking a seasonedSenior Project Managerto lead and grow ourStormwater CIP Practice within the Water Resources Department.
This role is primarily responsible for expanding McAdams' presence in municipal stormwater services, while providing technical leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight across water resources initiatives with corporate reach.
The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer with deep expertise in civil engineering, particularly in stormwater infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and municipal programs. This leader will drive business development, oversee complex projects, mentor staff, and help shape the long-term strategic growth of McAdams' Water Resources platform.
Practice Growth & Strategic Leadership
- Develop, lead, and sustain the Stormwater Practice within the Water Resources Department.
- Actively participate in the development and implementation of the Water Resources strategic plan.
- Identify and secure new project opportunities, including grant funding and alternative funding sources.
- Build and strengthen relationships with municipalities, state and federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and industry partners.
- Stay informed on emerging trends, regulatory changes, and innovative technologies in stormwater andcapital projectdelivery.
- ExpandStormwaterservices into other metros where McAdams operates.
- Support marketing and business development initiatives, including proposal development and interviews.
Client Development & Market Engagement
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships with local governments and public works agencies.
- Gain awareness of client initiatives, funding constraints, and infrastructure priorities.
- Represent McAdams in professional organizations and industry events.
- Lead or assist with strategic pursuits aligned with Water Resources growth goals.
Project & Program Leadership
- Provide technical and task leadership acrossstormwaterprojects.
- Stormwater drainage improvement projects
- Watershed planning and master planning efforts
- Floodplain modeling and permitting
- Stormwater management design
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, set deadlines, assign responsibilities, and monitor progress.
- Ensure quality standards are established and maintained across all projects.
- Prepare and present findings, technical reports, and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
- Conduct field visits and site assessments as necessary.
Operational & Financial Management
- Monitor project budgets, profitability, billing, and receivables.
- Provide regular reporting to upper management on project status, staff utilization, and business development efforts.
- Coordinate resource scheduling to effectively manage workload and deadlines.
- Set design standards, training requirements, and technical proficiency expectations for the team.
- Mentor and develop staff to ensure technical excellence and long-term practice sustainability.
Collaboration & Corporate Integration
- Work collaboratively across operational groups within McAdams.
- Support complex projects that are part of broader firm-wide initiatives.
- Provide technical guidance and assist project managers with resolving design challenges.
- Understand the scope and authority of empowered decision-making within the practice.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Science, Landscape Architecture, or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) required.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in civil engineering, water resources, stormwater management, or public works.
- Demonstrated success in growing or developing a Stormwater Practice.
- Technical expertise in stormwater design, regulatory compliance, watershed planning, and municipal infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of stormwater regulations, permitting requirements, and MS4 programs.
- Proven ability to manage project budgets and meet revenue and profitability expectations.
- Experience with grant funding processes and alternative funding strategies preferred.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro or other GIS platforms; AutoCAD experience is desirable.
- Exceptional communication, technical writing, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentorship abilities.
- Established relationships within the municipal and water resources community are preferred.
Work Environment + Physical Demands
Work is primarily performed in an office environment with periodic fieldwork and site visits.
Responsibilities may include extended computer use, sitting for long periods, and occasional lifting (up to 30 pounds). Fieldwork may require walking, standing, and navigating active project sites.
