Job Summary-

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS), a premier provider of ordnance weapons and tactical systems to the U.S. Department of Defense and allied nations, has an opening for a Summer Engineering Intern to join the Munitions (MUN) Business Unit (BU) Engineer team at our GD-OTS locations in Wilkes-Barre and Hanover Twp.

The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams on various technical projects associate with our core mission. Responsibilities-

Essential Functions:

  • Exposed to a wide range of work:

    • Developing Standard work
    • Process drawing - converting AutoCAD to 3D models
    • Design work: Modeling of Existing Equipment in Solidworks
    • Commissioning of Capital equipment (assisting engineers in all tasks)
    • Cycle Time/ Dowtime Analysis
    • Process capability analysis and improvement - This will most likely be one of their larger projects...ID our top 3 highest scrap CNC machines, initial process capability, root cause drivers of variation, and design corrective actions into the process
    • Special Projects for intern.
    • Support engineering department as needed with various administrative tasks.


Qualifications-

  • 3rd or 4th Year Engineering Students (Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering Preferred, but open to Electrical or Industrial Engineering Applicants as well)
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Solidworks
  • Bachelor's Degree In-Progress - Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • Self-Driven Individual
  • Preferred engineering student at an ABET accredited university
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Basic computer skillset - word processing, excel, power point, etc.
  • Solidworks experience a plus

Required Qualifications:

  • Required education and experience: Must be currently enrolled in related Technical courses or be within 6 months of graduation; No prior experience needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Ability to work as part of a team. Oral and written communication skills. Attentiveness. Ability to understand and follow directions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • May need to stand for long periods of time.
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
  • This position is Safety-Sensitive.

Travel Requirements:

  • No or very little travel likely.
