Job Summary
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics ( NSM), this position will be responsible for strategic marketing and communications, content creation and management, social media and digital engeagement, and media relations. The Marketing & Communications Manager will collaborate with leaders and faculty throughout NSM and with the UT Dallas Office of Communications & Marketing to align efforts with the school's and the university's mission and strategic goals.
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree; five years experience in marketing communications and advertising; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, English, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 5 - 10 years of experience in branding, communications, marketing, advertising, management, donor stewardship or related work.
  • Demonstrated ability to create strategy and messaging.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects within time and budget constraints without sacrificing quality
  • Copy-writing experience, including evidence of effectively writing in a style and tone suited to target audiences. Experience with AP Stylebook is required
  • Excellent command of grammar and punctuation
  • Expericne in higher education and/or in an agency directly writing/marketing for higher education clients or the 15-25 year-old demographic.
  • Understanding of and experience in brand identity and brand management in higher education

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Strategic Marketing & Branding: In collaborating with NSM leadership, develop and implement strategic marketing plans for the school, oversee brand consistency, and optimize digital presence for a range of internal and external audiences (e.g., current and prospective students and employees, alumni, donors and other potential friends of UT Dallas)

  • Content Creation & Management: NSM website, social media, press releases, newsletters, and digital advertising in accordance with the Associated Press (AP) Stylebook or other medium-specific guidelines. Draft items for the Dean (e.g., speeches, presentation slides) and support the development of internal communications (e.g., monthly newsletter, templates for school use). Design, edit, and publish The Lens, NSM's annual magazine.

  • Social Media & Digital Engagement: Manage, or oversee the management of, NSM's official school-level social media accounts. Monitor online reputation; and analyze, report on, and make recommendation for improvement of engagement metrics.

  • Media Relations: Serve as the primary media contact for NSM. Draft press releases and coordinate interviews and coverage of NSM news stories. Track NSM media coverage via print and online media. Collaborate with the UT Dallas Office of Communications and Marketing to assist with crisis communication and media queries, escorting reporters on campus.

  • Event Promotion: Oversee marketing for NSM initiatives; support marketing for graduate and undergraduate recruitment and for special events.

  • Management: Manage personnel (professional and student staff), ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with high quality.

This is primarily an in-person position; however, a hybrid work option may be considered, subject to business need and manager approval, upon completion of training and 6-month probationary period with an approved UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement ( RWA). If the RWA is approved, the employee must be located within the DFW area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice.
