Compensation: $90,000- 110,000 DOE/Base + Benefits+ Bonus

BBSI has forged a powerful partnership with a premier designer and producer of prefabricated modular structures. The prefabrication industry is witnessing a significant surge, serving a wide array of sectors including education, government, commercial, industrial, and specialized markets.

In light of this expanding demand, we're on the lookout for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead plan review, compliance, and engineering oversight within a fast-paced modular construction environment.

Job Summary

The Engineering Manager provides strategic and technical leadership in evaluating building plans, specifications, and structural calculations to ensure full compliance with applicable codes and project requirements. This role leads the plan check process, delivers value-engineering insights, and collaborates with internal teams and external partners to uphold safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and verify building plans, specifications, and calculations for compliance with established project criteria and California building codes
  • Perform independent engineering analysis to validate structural adequacy and safety
  • Lead and coordinate plan review processes with in-house Engineering team members
  • Provide technical guidance to internal teams to ensure compliance and resolve engineering challenges
  • Consult with Engineers, Architects, Contractors, Designers, and regulatory bodies regarding design and code requirements
  • Conduct Value Engineering evaluations on construction documents
  • Maintain records, documentation, and a comprehensive library of applicable codes and regulations
  • Stay current with evolving building methods, materials, and state regulations
  • Ensure plan checks are processed accurately and within required timelines
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of California Building Code (CBC), California Plumbing Code, California Mechanical Code, California Electrical Code, California Accessibility Code, Title 24, and CAL Green
  • Deep understanding of building construction methods, materials, and engineering principles
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze building plans and technical specifications
  • Skilled in interpreting and applying codes, ordinances, and regulatory standards
  • Strong analytical ability with sound structural recommendation skills
  • Leadership and communication skills to support cross-functional collaboration

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible plan check, plan examination, or private-sector building design/engineering experience
  • Experience within modular construction or manufacturing environments required
