Job Holder:

Job Title: Claims Analytics Lead

Reports To: As per Beazley's organisation chart

Key Relationships: Underwriters and business managers, Beazley actuaries, Claims managers, Data Management and Ceded Reinsurance teams, Lloyd's.

Job Summary: The overarching remit of the analytics team is to create business value by providing insights to enhance decision making and strategy throughout the company.

You will work with business stakeholders to translate business problems into appropriate questions and work to devise analytical solutions.

Your core purpose is to deliver deep insights into claims characteristics and trends, enabling faster identification of loss drivers and supporting timely, effective underwriting action. You will work closely with Underwriting, Claims and Reserving to understand their needs, partnering with the data organisation, IT and the wider actuarial teams, to design and deliver solutions that best meet these needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical

  • Deliver insights into claims characteristics and trends, enabling faster identification of loss drivers and supporting timely, effective underwriting action. The role includes:

  • Developing and enhancing tools to support the Pre Peer and Reserving processes

  • Ad-hoc analytics to support Underwriting and Reserving strategy

  • Building new capability to detect warning signs and emerging trends earlier

  • Exploring how AI can enhance our claims insights

  • Build the frameworks and design pipelines to enable these tools and analysis to become strategic, embedded into the business processes and platforms

  • Work with the data organisation to ensure that data requirements are communicated and delivered, such that analysis can be completed seamlessly without creation of silos, rework and multiple versions of the truth

  • Work with the in-team research function to review and experiment with new methods, techniques and data sources to further enhance analysis and tools

  • Maintain a continual feedback loop with business stakeholders, assisting in the upskilling of underwriting teams, and sharing findings and ideas with the broader actuarial team to ensure that the maximum value is gained from the output produced.

  • Build and maintain constructive working arrangements with those groups identified as being key to your role

  • Operate as an effective team member by supporting direct reports and contributing to the delivery and achievement of overall team and business objectives

  • Provide support and mentoring to the junior members of the team

  • Become a technical expert and trusted advisor for underwriters/management on pricing analytics and related matters

  • Keep abreast of industry best practice, new initiatives and changes in regulatory requirements

  • Undertake applicable professional, technical and career development training (delivered internally and externally); this includes maintaining actuarial CPD

This may include, amongst others, Beazley's underwriting control standards, Beazley's claims control standards, other Beazley standards and customer relationship management.

  • Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system. These may include membership of any Beazley committees or working groups.

Essential Criteria

  • University degree in Mathematics or related field

  • Actuarial qualification - FIA, FCAS or equivalent

  • Actuarial experience in insurance industry, reserving experience beneficial, but pricing and capital backgrounds also considered; Lloyd's market knowledge desirable

Skills and Abilities

  • General commercial and financial knowledge

  • Competent user of MS Excel, VBA, SQL, R, Python, Power BI

  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail; accurate and numerate

  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Team worker as well as able to work on own initiative

  • Ability to manage time, work on a number of tasks in parallel, meet deadlines and prioritise

Knowledge and Experience

  • Command of actuarial techniques

  • Understanding of reinsurance

  • Data science knowledge and experience beneficial

  • People management experience preferred
