This position provides critical GIS data management services. Candidates will be well versed in Esri ArcGIS Pro desktop software to edit, manage, display, and analyze versioned enterprise GIS data. Candidates will have attention to detail in their work, experience leveraging web GIS technologies using ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Online, and experience or interest in automating tasks. Key Job duties:
- Create and maintain highly accurate GIS layers and develop associated database tables.
- Process and ingest proposed and as-built plans into county enterprise geodatabase.
- Perform quality control checks on GIS layers and associated database tables to ensure accuracy and adherence to agency specifications.
- Produce high quality cartographic services for internal and external customers.
- Assist in development and documentation of business processes and automation tools to reduce processing time and improve quality assurance.
- Conduct independent spatial analysis which includes hydrological analysis using raster and vector data (e.g., watershed delineation, land cover, impervious, etc.).
- Produce ad-hoc and recurring GIS data reports.
- Provide service request support and GIS application training to DPWES customers.
- Troubleshoot GIS hardware and software issues and assist in the configuration and maintenance of GIS applications.

The Director's Office provides support for all business areas of DPWES. Responsible for communication and public engagement, information technology, safety, emergency planning, and human resource policy oversight, the Director's Office is foundational for the department's success in delivering quality and equitable services to our community.
Works in the DPWES IT Branch, which will provide onsite support at the Fairfax County Government Center and the upcoming Water Resources & Infrastructure Facility in Burke, VA.
The position is designated as Emergency Service Personnel. Employees in this position must fulfill emergency service duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:(Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") Bachelor's degree in computer science, geography or related field; plus course work in ArcView GIS or similar GIS software.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Land Surveying, Engineering, or related field.
- 2 years of professional GIS experience editing and cartographically communicating enterprise GIS data using Esri ArGIS Pro desktop software.
- 1 or more years of experience with public works-related GIS data and workflows (e.g., stormwater, wastewater, solid waste, urban forestry, capital improvement projects, etc.).
- 1 or more years of experience reviewing engineering plans and land records.
- 2 or more years of experience working with Esri web GIS technologies using ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online.
- 1 or more years of experience working with ArcGIS Utility Networks.
- 1 or more years of experience working with Branch Versioning.
- 1 or more years of experience automating workflows with Esri ModelBuilder or Python scripting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to operate a personal computer and conduct field review. Duties are generally sedentary and are performed in an office environment. Manual dexterity to operate office equipment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
