What to Expect

Tesla is accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy, and the Tesla Semi plays a critical role in that mission. We are seeking a highly motivated Field Quality Leader to join our quickly growing Semi team. You will play a crucial role in developing and implementing strategies to accelerate the feedback loop between design, quality, and field teams. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, analyze data, implement countermeasures, and report on issues affecting the Semi truck. To be effective, the Field Quality Manager will need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of our Semi truck and the tools and equipment used in its design and manufacture. They will work with other engineering teams to quickly mitigate and implement countermeasures of field issues to improve quality, reliability, and durability of the products.


What You'll Do
  • Monitor products field performance, identify trending issues. Prioritize based on severity, occurrence, and/or cost of each failure mode
  • Triage emerging trends and use engineering first principals to come up with failure hypothesis
  • Coordinate efforts with the Failure Analysis team to identify root-causes of problems
  • Collaborate with engineering, factory quality and suppliers to drive containment and corrective action implementation into production
  • Communicate field performance of the engineering system, gather buy-in from engineering leadership on improvement priorities and urgency
  • Drive upward design feedback during design reviews by utilizing information on field performance, reliability and factory quality issues (DFMEAs)
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and take preventive actions

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Prior applicable experience desired; preferably in Failure Analysis, Product Engineering, Quality or Service in consumer electronics or automotive
  • The successful candidate for this position must have a broad engineering background with the ability to work with design engineering, manufacturing, service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla and outside
  • Ability to use tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data
  • Programming Languages & Tools: SQL, Python, Jupyterhub, Minitab, Tableau, JMP or similar are a strong plus
  • Experience managing cross-functional projects in a global customer facing organization (ideally in automotive or comparable industry)
  • Comfortable working in a complex, fluid, fast-paced, and demanding work environment
  • Strong ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal business functions globally, as well as external vendors
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
