About the Position

The purpose of this position is to manage and coordinate signal maintenance staff and activities under division management for the Traffic Operations branch of the Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) Division.

We Require

  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in technical construction and maintenance programs and projects

  • High school diploma or GED

  • A combination of related post-secondary education and/orjob-related experience may substitute for theminimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

Other Requirements

Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona Driver's license by the time of hire

  • Associate's degree or higher in Civil Engineering or Construction Technology, or a closely related field

  • Prior lead or supervisory experience

Job Contributions

  • Manage the daily operations and activities of assigned technical staff, including emergency response activities; coordinate and schedule staff, vehicles, and equipment; assure the work quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities; work with employees to correct performance deficiencies; counsel and implement discipline procedures as needed

  • Assure that technical construction and maintenance tasks are completed on or under budget

  • Manage in-house technical training and safety programs, ensure compliance with all operational and safety rules and regulations, and County policies, procedures, and standards

  • Prepare and administer the branch budget; prepare cost estimates for budget management and projects; monitor and control expenditures for traffic signal maintenance projects and activities within the approved budget. Procures construction and maintenance materials and equipment, and approves all requests up to $50,000

  • Manage all Intergovernmental agreements with agencies and process all reimbursement invoices for signal maintenance performed

  • Review and approve plans and specifications of Transportation Improvement Projects, and approve all field engineering adjustments and equipment modifications on projects

  • Manage technical installation and maintenance of Intelligent Transportation Systems for MCDOT

  • Respond to inquiries and resolve complaints and inquiries from the general public and various governmental agencies regarding assigned projects

  • Other job duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or requires walking or standing to a significant degree

  • The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions, including fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
