Your Role at Cabot

The Battery Materials Group at Cabot Corporation is seeking a motivated technical intern to join our team developing advanced conductive additives for high performance lithium-ion batteries. This internship provides an opportunity for a qualified undergraduate or graduate student to gain industrial experience at the forefront of materials innovation, linking chemistry, engineering, and application testing to accelerate nextgeneration energy storage.

This role is expected to provide hands-on experimental support and product characterization for key projects within the Battery Materials Group. Candidates will work closely with battery scientists to evaluate the performance of conductive carbon additives and their dispersions, using various analytical methods and electrochemical testing. You will be responsible for all or some of the following: sample preparation, material processing, measurement, and analysis. Due to the technical nature of the work involved, this position requires a strong technical background with hands-on lab experience, preferably in the fields of chemical engineering, materials science, or chemistry with great laboratory skills.

How You Will Make an Impact
* Assist with the planning and execution of experiments to produce high quality lithium-ion battery electrode slurries and coatings with various conductive additives.
* Assist in the characterization of slurry and electrode properties, including rheology, stability, morphology, peel strength, resistivity, etc.
* May be trained to produce battery cells to evaluate electrochemical cell performance.
* Analyze experimental data, generate reports, and present results to the R&D team.
* Document results in a final presentation or research report at the end of the internship.

What You Will Bring to Cabot
* Currently enrolled in undergraduate/or graduate program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
* University-level experience in a laboratory environment
* Strong focus on lab and chemical safety, basic chemical safety training experience preferred
* Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and willingness to learn
* Experience writing formal laboratory reports
* Computer skills (MS-Excel, PowerPoint)
* 10-12 week commitment
Preferred
* Relevant coursework in materials engineering, chemistry, or chemical engineering
* Familiarity with carbon additives (carbon black, carbon nanotubes, etc.)
* Understanding of or experience with materials testing, electrode preparation, or electrochemical techniques (cycling tests, CV, EIS)
