Position Summary

The UCLA Latino Policy & Politics Institute (UCLA LPPI) seeks a dynamic Policy Analyst to join the Mobilization Department. UCLA LPPI addresses the most critical domestic policy challenges facing Latinos and other communities of color through research, advocacy, mobilization, and leadership development to propel policy reforms that expand genuine opportunity for all Americans. The Policy Analyst will report directly to the Policy Director (PD) and identify as a highly motivated individual who can thrive as a strategic and analytical partner. Conduct thorough political landscape analyses and develop toolkits that support sophisticated research and advocacy initiatives. Supports organization and projects and collaborates with diverse policy stakeholders and external partners. The Policy Analyst staffs the Policy Director in meeting organizational deliverables relating to local, state, and federal policy goals. Supports the execution of high-level public-facing projects, from increasing Latino representation in decision-making bodies to evaluating the efficacy of government investments in communities of color. The Policy Analyst will serve as the Policy Director's representative as needed in various settings, both on and off-campus, to increase the public profile and impact of UCLA LPPI. The incumbent will provide support, training, and supervision for LPPI student policy fellows. The Policy Analyst will also support mobilization and advocacy communications functions, event production, growing external relationships, and facilitating rapid response policy analysis.


Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years Professional experience operating in a fast-paced, execution-focused professional setting, preferably with exposure to government or research sectors. (Required)
  • Persuasive oral communication and public speaking skills to lead meetings, explain complex ideas to diverse audiences, build consensus, and influence decision-making by internal and external groups from all organizational levels. (Required)
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to maintain cooperative relationships and ongoing communications with persons of diverse social, educational, and cultural backgrounds. (Required)
  • Intermediate writing, editing, analytical, and strategic thinking skills to decipher information, prepare concise summaries, and provide sound recommendations to communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences. (Required)
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills and must be meticulous and detail-oriented with experience using project management tools to compile information, manage project tasks, and track progress. (Required)
  • Ability to multitask, triage work priorities, and adhere to organizational expectations of accuracy and attention to detail in a dynamic environment with competing needs. Resourcefulness and ability to work proactively be adaptable and managing tasks in a fast-paced environment. (Required)
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and professionalism in verbal and written communications. (Required)
  • Exceptional time management skills to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner, without prompting, both independently and collaboratively. (Required)
  • Ability to both take direction and work independently with minimal direction, with the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment, establish priorities, and follow through on assignments. Must be able to resolve difficult problems, analytical judgement and process quality work products. (Required)
  • Must maintain a strict code of ethics when working with confidential data and sensitive matters. (Required)
  • Occasional evening/night/weekend work is required as deadlines for special projects are approaching. (Required)
  • Demonstrated interest in public policy and politics as it relates to the nation's diverse Latino communities with the ability to support and foster teamwork, cooperation, respect, and a diverse work environment.
    Familiarity with program and project evaluation and ability to identify work impact. (Preferred)
  • Skill in supporting and managing multiple policy and advocacy projects, including planning, coordination, and execution of mobilization initiatives and events such as webinars, policy briefings, and trainings. (Required)

  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required)
  • Master's Degree in public policy, political science, economics, sociology, urban planning, public health, statistics, law or a related field. (Preferred)
