SUMMARY:
Under general direction of Manager, Corporate Accounting, performs variety of professional accounting duties, administers various automated sub-systems, monitors various general ledger accounts, prepares and reviews entries to ensure the accuracy of all account balances, prepares numerous accounting/finance related reports, and summarizes and prepares Brown University Health Corporate and consolidated financial statements; also performs various treasury functions including internal/external funds transfer and independent controlled disbursement and payroll bank account funding, along with other cash management functions. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for day-to-day accounting for Brown University Health, including the timely preparation of monthly financial statements, both for the Corporation and on a consolidated basis. Maintains compliance with Brown University Health's financial statement closing schedule.Executes daily cash management decisions for and maintains daily funding of Controlled Disbursement Account (CDA) for Brown University Health and affiliates. Assumes responsibility for maintaining CDA cash flow balance among affiliates.Maintains the accounting for and reconciles Brown University Health's cash accounts; executes wire transfers among all Brown University Health affiliates (except for Newport Healthcare Corporation and subsidiaries) as well as external wire transfers, subject to callback provisions.Works with bank representatives, investment custodian and bond trustee in order to ensure desired results in reporting and executing transfers.Prepares journal entries for assigned accounts; ensures that all activity has been recorded.Reviews Brown University Health's general ledger trial balance in order to determine propriety of account balances through analysis and prepares adjusting entries.Responsible for the internal unitized accounting and income allocation of Rhode Island Hospital's endowment funds.Maintains and produces Rhode Island Hospital Endowment quarterly stewardship reporting.Works with Brown University Health Financial Operations personnel to coordinate the general ledger update, reconciliation and reporting for assigned areas of responsibility.Assists in the preparation of quarterly payroll tax returns, annual information reporting returns and annual tax returns of Brown University Health and affiliates.Gathers data and prepares financial summaries which depict various aspects of the activities and financial position of Brown University Health.Conducts analysis and works on special projects as assigned; prepares ad-hoc financial reports; replies to information requests.Seeks and develops methods to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Brown University Health's financial operations and initiates improvements to processes and reports to better serve users of both Brown University Health Corporate and consolidated financial information. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE:A level of knowledge generally obtained through a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA or CMA designation preferred, but not required.EXPERIENCE:Four or more years of accounting experience, including consolidation of multi-company financial statements, treasury-related functions (execution of wire transfers, interaction with investment custodian, etc.), preparation of various tax filings, extensive microcomputer applications, and financial reporting, preferably in a similarly complex health care environment. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Work is performed in a typical office environment, requiring extended periods of sitting.
