Description

Wisconsin Early Childhood Association is a statewide, nonprofit association serving as a professional association whose members care for and educate Wisconsin's children, aged birth to eight. We are affiliated with the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Wisconsin Early Childhood Association works to build a foundation for a lifetime of learning for Wisconsin's young children by promoting excellence in early education programs, supporting professionalism in the early childhood workforce, and calling for greater investment in quality early child care. WECA's mission is to meet the professional needs of adults who nurture and teach Wisconsin's young children through a rich continuum of services.

WECA's T.E.A.C.H program is looking for a full-time Career Development Counselor to join their team.

This position provides career development guidance and case management in the form of academic, non-academic and career counseling. The CD Counselor elicits individual information pertaining to past experiences, future goals, learning styles, strengths, weaknesses, and resources as pertains to individual career development planning. In addition, the CD Counselor provides information about credit and non-credit opportunities, community colleges, traditional and atypical approaches to career development. This position also contributes to the development of CD materials and procedures. The CD Counselor works closely with the T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship Counselors and team.

Living in the state of Wisconsin is required for this position. This is a hybrid position where you would work from your home office and occasionally be required to attend in person meetings.

Experience working in the early childcare industry is required for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Provide virtual meeting consultation as well as telephone consultation to individuals seeking individual Career Development guidance.
  • Complete counseling sessions by reviewing personal Career Development Questionnaire and case management program information, aligning relative information and counseling strategies, completing associated documentation, and providing necessary follow-up for assigned individuals.
  • Complete Career Development overview contact and guidance to program contact person per designated DCF mechanism (case management) including service description, YoungStar information and provision of CD Questionnaire.
  • Maintain documentation of activities within the case management systems and/or WECA CD database per established procedures.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of Career Development materials and procedures.
  • Contribute to the provision of regular Career Development data reports.
  • Present outreach information about Career Development, T.E.A.C.H. Scholarship, and associated information.
  • Assist with the other duties as requested.


Education & Required Skills:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood (preferred) or related educational or human services field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in the child care profession.
  • Knowledge of childcare licensing requirements, YoungStar standards, teacher licensure requirements, and/or the functions of credit and non-credit coursework within the early childhood profession.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on the phone and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, attend to detail-oriented work and multiple tasks, identify needs, contribute to creative solutions and problem solve.
  • Familiarity with computer usages and programs, Microsoft.
  • Ability to utilize case management database and Office software.
  • Able to travel within the state, (reliable automobile at her/his disposal and valid WI driver's license), attend evening meetings and occasionally travel out-of-state as program representative.
