Summary:The Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician III is responsible for preparing sterile medications and performing environmental monitoring activities under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role ensures the accuracy and safety of compounded medications and maintains the cleanroom work area while adhering to regulatory standards and organizational policies. Each month, the technician will be expected to attend at least three of the monthly cleanroom cleans performed across the system.

This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $5000 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment. Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares category 2 and category 3 sterile compounds, following aseptic technique.
  2. Maintains accurate and detailed records of all compounding activities and inventory.
  3. Performs environmental monitoring and upholds cleanroom standards.
  4. Receives, restocks, and rotates inventory on a daily basis.
  5. Prepares medications for storage and shipment following all applicable temperature and storage requirements (cold chain, hazardous, protect from light, etc.)
  6. Coordinates product shipments to hospitals, clinics, and vendors, using multiple courier methods.
  7. Conducts regular inventory audits to ensure stock levels and expiration dates are managed.
  8. Assists in onboarding and training new pharmacy technicians.
  9. Participates in monthly cleanroom cleans at various locations across the entity.
  10. Works closely with other pharmacy technicians and pharmacists to ensure patient safety.
  11. Communicates effectively to resolve any discrepancies or issues.
  12. Responds to and triages requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy distribution or compounding services.
  13. Leads regulatory compliance checks for all work areas, ensuring compliance with USP <797> guidelines and other regulatory standards.

Education Requirements:
* None required as long as other position qualifications are met. Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
*CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
Professional Experience Requirements:

  • Two years of pharmacy technician experience required.
  • Familiarity with USP and regulatory standards related to sterile compounding.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Ability to reach overhead to access shelved products and conduct cleaning activities.
