Responsibilities

Admissions RN is Responsible for the timely processing of inquiry and referral calls. Responsible for coordination of all admissions processes and serves as liaison to referral sources, families, payors, physicians, unit and hospital personnel involved with each admission. Verify insurance, triage patients, complete assessments, ability to staff clinical effectively, enter calls and admissions in computer and complete all admission paperwork with patient. Effectively communicate with unit staff and assist patient to unit. Pre-cert with payor source. Follow hospital's policies and procedures regarding admissions.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN) Job Requirements:

  • Current New Jersey RN licensure; BSN/BS preferred.
  • Minimum requirements are one (1) year of psychiatric nursing experience, or two (2) years of medical/surgical experience with proven leadership, strong clinical skills, and high motivation.
  • Graduate of NLN accredited program preferred.
  • ANA Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing certification preferred.
  • CPR certification required.

Roles and Responisbilities:

  • Comply with all Administrative, Clinical, and Human Resources policies and procedures
  • Actively supports the mission, philosophy, and goals of the hospital.
  • Communicates with sensitivity to growth, development, and cultural issues.
  • Receives all referral/inquiry calls and responds to request for information, assessment and possible admission.

  • Provides and documents thorough and accurate assessment of individuals seeking admission
  • Assures accurate information is provided to referrals as requested.
  • Collaborates with Business Office staff to ensure that payor information is obtained and verified.
  • Performs assessments and medical screenings
  • Effectively monitor and address patient/family needs within the department as well as any medical issues.
  • Completes the administrative paperwork, including consent and releases to ensure that patients are fully informed during the admission process.
  • Working knowledge of Involuntary process and procedure
  • Enter calls and admissions into computer and complete admission process appropriately.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dress, attitude, support of unit milieu, and hospital mission and philosophy.
  • .Support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.
  • Ability to walk 3-4 hours a day or more through and between hospital departments with intervals of frequent standing, bending reaching and stooping to assist patients.
  • Ability to sit for long periods, up to 6- hours a day at a desk and/or table.
  • Ability to hear and speak clearly over the telephone for 6-12 hours a day
  • Ability to push and pull up to 10 lbs. (file cabinet drawers, computer paper boxes).
  • Emotional stability and interpersonal skills to accommodate emotionally disturbed or in crisis potential patients and families on the phone and in person in a calm manner.
  • Ability to lift/lower up to 40 pounds and grasp and move items.
  • Ability to see and write legibly and be grammatically correct.
