Position Summary

The Refrigeration Technician will repair, install, and adjust all refrigeration equipment. The role will operate the ammonia refrigeration system and related equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with the plant Process Safety Management (PSM) Program. This role will observe all plant equipment with intent of recommending continuous equipment improvement and reliability. This role works closely with the department supervisors, other department leads, and processing team members, in order to accomplish accuracy within the processing department and to ensure that our customers receive quality products. This position executes processes that ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations, supporting Foster Poultry Farms' mission, vision, and ACTION guiding principles: Accountability, Collaboration, Truth-Seeking, Initiative, Ownership, and Nimbleness.

Essential Functions



  • Must be at workstation on time with all work apparel clean, sanitized and with all required safety equipment.
  • Must obey all safety, USDA, HACCP, and plant rules and regulations.
  • Must know shop mathematics, able to interpret drawings and able to use required tools.
  • Must be able to work around Anhydrous Ammonia.
  • Perform routine maintenance on Ammonia compressors, air system drying equipment, and air system controls.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Physical Requirements

Qualified applicants must be able to perform the following physical job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation:



  • Must be able to stand for up to 10 hours on a wet concrete floor
  • Must be able to withstand a cold (40-48 degree) environment.
  • Must be able to withstand a hot (80+ degree) environment.
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and/or ladders.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and heights.
  • Must be able to push, pull, bend, kneel, and crouch/squat.
  • Must be able to pass Hazmat physical and Pulmonary Test yearly.



Qualifications



  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to submit and pass a criminal background check, drug screen, and E-verify.
  • Must be able to read and write English.


  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • HS diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous refrigeration or ammonia experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels including management.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Decision making ability for the flagging of deviation from procedures.
  • Able to work safely and set an example of safe working habits for their coworkers.
  • Must be able to safely operate forklift and/or pallet jack.
  • Must be able to pass company Forklift assessments to obtain company issued Forklift license.
  • Must wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
