Nurse Practitioner - Bloodless Medicine

The Center for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery for the Johns Hopkins Hospital has specific protocols that need to be implemented, developed, and maintained. Obtaining and recording a history and physical examination for patients requiring evaluation or management by the Bloodless Medicine and Surgery (BMS) team. These are primarily adult patients who cannot be transfused for personal, religious, or immunologic reasons. Determining causes and deciding on treatment modalities for pre-, intra-, and post-operative anemia in such patients. Completing consults for inpatients referred to the BMS team. Supervision by/consultation with a Hematologist for all of above will be available as needed. Optimization of outpatients with planned surgical or procedural interventions. The Nurse Practitioner practices within the guidelines of the unit department, and institution and in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner- Physician Written Agreement required and approved by the State of Maryland.

Work schedule: Mainly Dayshift - occasionally working on call for holidays and weekends. Variable hours with both in-house coverage seeing patients, and on call from home by pager to answer questions and give patient management advice.

Qualifications:



  • MSN/DNP from an accredited nursing program required.
  • Active Maryland or Compact RN and CRNP license are required
  • Current certifications as an Adult Gero Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland or letter from MBON approving practice as a Nurse Practitioner Graduate while awaiting completing of JHH affiliate credentialing as a Nurse Practitioner
  • BLS CPR certification required: AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network accepted
  • The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of acute care RN work experience
  • RN work experience in an acute care setting is required.
  • No NP experience required. NP work experience with acutely ill medical and surgical inpatients, and knowledge of outpatient management of preoperative anemia preferred.

Salary Range: Minimum 53.15/hour - Maximum 82.38/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
