Key Account Manager Business Development

Purpose:


  • Valkyrie Enterprises has an immediate need for a full-time Key Account Manager within our Corrosion Control Operations to manage and expand strategic customer relationships within the Corrosion Control segment, ensuring that business objectives for growth, profitability, and customer satisfaction are consistently achieved.
  • The Key Account Manager (KAM) will serve as the primary commercial and technical liaison between the company and its assigned key accounts/region distributors, developing deep partnerships that drive long-term value creation, specification wins, and sustainable growth. The role combines business acumen, technical understanding, salesmanship and relationship management to deliver market-leading solutions aligned with customer and company strategies.


Job Description:



  • Account Management & Growth
  • Develop and execute strategic Key Account Plans in alignment with regional and global business objectives.
  • Achieve or exceed annual revenue, margin, and volume targets across assigned accounts.
  • Identify and secure new business opportunities within existing key accounts and new target customers.
  • Lead commercial negotiations, pricing discussions, and contract renewals to deliver profitable outcomes.
  • Customer Relationship & Collaboration
  • Build and maintain multi-level relationships within customer organizations, including purchasing, operations, technical teams, engineers, specifiers, and senior leadership.
  • Act as the primary customer interface, ensuring strong communication, responsiveness, and technical collaboration.
  • Partner with internal cross-functional teams (Technical Service, R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain) to ensure seamless execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Technical & Commercial Stewardship is a component of the job.
  • Provide high-level technical and application support in collaboration with the technical service team.
  • Work closely with engineers, specifiers, and design professionals to position and secure company products in project specifications.
  • Support product qualification, specification, and trial processes to secure long-term business.
  • Strategic & Financial Performance
  • Contribute to the annual sales budget and forecast process, ensuring accuracy and accountability.
  • Monitor and manage key financial metrics including sales volume, gross margin, and cost-to-serve.
  • Utilize CRM and reporting tools to track progress, analyze performance, and share insights with management.
  • Market Development
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and emerging opportunities within the industrial coatings space.
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and technical forums to enhance brand visibility and credibility.
  • Support the implementation of marketing campaigns and new product introductions within key accounts.


Qualifications:


  • Must have a BA/BS Degree in Business, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Must have a Minimum 7 years of experience in sales, key account management, or business development within the industrial coatings, chemicals, or specialty materials industry.
  • Must have Proven track record of managing strategic accounts and delivering measurable business growth.
  • Must have Strong understanding of industrial coatings market and applications and customer processes across key sectors (e.g., energy, infrastructure, OEM, marine, manufacturing).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with engineers, specifiers, and technical influencers to achieve product specifications and project inclusion.
  • Experience with both direct-to-end-user sales and channel-based models involving distributors, buying groups, and national accounts.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to manage complex sales cycles and contracts.
  • Ability to build long-term relationships and influence at multiple levels within customer organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and lead virtual teams.
  • Proficient in CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and data-driven decision-making.


Desired Qualifications:


  • Experience with specification selling and technical sales in corrosion protection or performance coatings is preferred.
  • Prior exposure to distributor management, buying group negotiations, or hybrid go-to-market structures is preferred.
  • Experience with global or regional key account frameworks is preferred.
  • MBA or advanced technical degree considered an asset and is strongly preferred.


Security Requirements:


  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance


Travel Requirements:


  • Travel up to 60%.
  • If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements:


  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Light work and demonstrations that includes moving objects and bending over.

Pay Range: $145,000 - $155,000 per year
