What You Can Expect

As an Water Plant Engineer Intern at the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City, IA, you will support operations and leadership by assisting the Water Plant Project Manager develop improvements, review designs, support construction of reliability and energy savings projects.

Expect each day to be a learning opportunity as a Water Plant Engineering Intern. You'll actively participate in contributing to the development and execution of water treatment plans, focusing on water quality, data handling, training, safety, and chemical cost reduction. Additionally, you'll build and use reports from operational data assisting with formulating action plans to address issues and opportunities. You will also be able to provide input to controls programmers to continually drive improvement in controllability processes and enhance the collection of key data points to expand valuable alarming and facility analytics.

Our office operates within standard business hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with no weekend or after-hours work expected. This internship is structured to begin in the Spring semester and continue through the Summer and Fall semesters, ending on December 31, 2026. We provide part-time, flexible scheduling during the semester, while full-time commitment is sought for the summer term.

Your roles and responsibilities include:




  • Assist with the development and implementation of specific chemical, controls, and other process improvement projects to advance the plant's water treatment goals.
  • Work with Engie employees and outside consultants to solve engineering problems around the plant; improving the efficiency of the process and quality of the product.
  • Work with Engie employees and vendors to improve tracking of chemical usage and forecast spending.
  • Support small construction projects within the production plant such as replacing pipes, pumps, motors, valves, or insulation.
  • Interfaces frequently with ENGIE's CAPEX team, the University of Iowa's Design and Construction, and our controls and automation partners to provide key input on design projects and prepare to provide support to projects when required.
  • Become familiar with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements governing design and operation of domestic water treatment systems and water quality requirements.
  • Assist Operations, Engineering, or Management with gathering data and putting together trends to support studies, projects, or operational needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.



What You'll Bring



  • Must be enrolled at the University of Iowa.
  • You have an interest in Engineering programs or pathways
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to use a personal computer, calculator, and work with standard software applications, such as Microsoft Office, GE Cimplicity, the AVEVA PI System, and some Adobe creative products.



Additional Details



  • This role requires attendance at a worksite.
  • Interns must be enrolled students in good standing at the commencement of the intern semester.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually not exposed to weather conditions.
  • A small percentage of the work will be performed out in the plant which can be hot, dirty, and noisy environment.
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies.



Compensation

Hourly Range: $22.00 - $32.00 USD hourly

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.
