Position Highlights

The Department of Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies (TLS) invites you to apply to the role of a part-time, non-tenure track, non-benefits eligible Limited Term Adjunct Instructor (Mentor Teacher) position for a portion of the Fall 2025 semester.

We seek a candidate with experience as a classroom teacher in secondary schools (grades 6-12). The Mentor Teacher is responsible for clinical supervision of one student teacher. Mentor Teachers observe the pre-service teacher daily, providing daily coaching on classroom management, planning, instruction, assessment, and professionalism. Mentor Teachers assess the pre-service teacher's ability to meet professional teaching standards.

The Mentor Teacher will work under the guidance of a Pre-Service Teacher Supervisor and College of Education faculty who are the Instructors of Record for the field experience/student teaching courses.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Attend
    periodic training, orientation, and collaborative meetings with the
    Program Director, Program Coordinator, and/or University Supervisor.
  • Develop
    a supportive professional relationship with the pre-service teacher.
  • Develop
    a Phase-in Plan with the pre-service teacher and ensure the pre-service
    teacher is provided opportunities to fulfill that plan.
  • Acquaint
    pre-service teacher with school community, resources, procedures, and
    professional guidelines.
  • Model
    professionalism and ensure compliance with teacher preparation fieldwork
    expectations of the Arizona Department of Education, Arizona Department of
    Health Services, University of Arizona and school district.
  • Share
    curriculum, lesson plans, and other instructional resources.
  • Provide
    daily mentoring to the pre-service teacher in these areas: managing the
    learning environment, planning and preparation, instruction and
    assessment, and professionalism and growth.
  • Collaborate
    with the University Supervisor to assess the pre-service teacher's ability
    to meet the professional teaching standards.
  • Other
    duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong
    content knowledge in the assigned subject area.
  • Exemplary
    teaching skills in the secondary classroom: management, planning,
    instruction, assessment.
  • Excellent
    skills mentoring novice teachers.
  • Ability
    to organize, prioritize, and problem solve, as well as use good judgment.
  • Ability
    to work effectively with others to accomplish goals.
  • Excellent
    verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive
    information and conversations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Previously
    approved by the school district to serve as the Mentor Teacher for the
    specifically assigned pre-service teacher.
  • Current
    classification of highly effective or effective pursuant to *
    15-203(A)(38) when applicable.
  • Current
    IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three full years of experience relevant to the license the pre-service teacher is seeking. (Secondary, English Language Arts).
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising student teachers and/or novice teachers.
  • Master's degree in education or related field.
