Step into a high-energy, fast-paced 30-bed Med/Surg unit where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to make a difference! Our team provides care for both adult and pediatric patients - from post-op recovery to complex medical cases.

You'll gain hands-on experience with a diverse range of patients including:
Post-op (knees, hips, shoulders, colon resections, bariatric surgery)
Medical conditions such as sepsis, pancreatitis, and pneumonia
Occasional pediatric care (1-2 patients per month)

Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6 with strong PCA support

Your Role: Patient Care Associate

Under the supervision of an RN or LPN, you'll play a vital role in supporting patients' individualized care and helping them reach their highest level of wellness.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Obtain and document vital signs in the EMR

  • Assist patients with daily activities - meals, bathing, toileting, ambulation, and transport

  • Provide clerical support as needed

Opportunity to Grow:

Advance through our career ladder to become a Patient Care Technician (PCT) - gaining new skills such as:

  • Phlebotomy & blood cultures

  • Enteral feeding

  • Wound care

  • IV/Foley removal

  • Trach care & suctioning

Training & Development

No experience? No problem!
Mercy offers an accredited Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program, providing hands-on learning and mentorship.

  • Comprehensive 175-hour training program included with hire

  • Must be completed within 90 days (per state guidelines)

  • BLS required within 1 month of hire

  • Completion of PCA competencies within 3 months

This program is a perfect first step for those pursuing a future in nursing or healthcare!

Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; CNA/CPTC or current enrollment in a healthcare program preferred

  • Experience: None required - training provided!

  • Physical Requirements:

    • Push/pull/lift up to 50 lbs regularly

    • Prolonged standing/walking

    • Ability to bend, kneel, twist, squat as needed

  • Preferred Certification: CNA
