Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Day Porter plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment across all Kennedy Valve buildings and grounds during day shift hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm. This position ensures that restrooms, locker rooms, breakrooms, and common areas remain in top condition throughout the day. The Day Porter performs regular cleaning, restocking, and disinfection duties during both morning and afternoon shifts, and responds to on-call cleaning emergencies as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support all restrooms, locker rooms, breakrooms, and high-traffic common areas within production, maintenance, and administrative facilities, ensuring continuous cleanliness during active operations.
  • Coordinate with commercial cleaning staff and/or other Day Porter on preceding or following shift to ensure seamless transition of cleaning coverage, supply inventory, and open maintenance requests.
  • Maintain restrooms and breakrooms to APPA Level 2 standards (Ordinary Tidiness): floors and fixtures free of noticeable soil, waste containers under 75% full, touchpoints disinfected multiple times each shift.
  • Must understand and follow OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200), maintain familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and use PPE as required.
  • Respond to spills, leaks, and contamination incidents following site safety procedures and immediately report any biohazard or chemical spill to the Maintenance & Facilities Superintendent and Environmental department.
Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Prior custodial, janitorial, or facilities maintenance experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of safe cleaning practices and use of cleaning products.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and handle cleaning chemicals properly.
  • Excellent time management, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain professionalism in occupied facilities.
  • Ability to follow industrial safety standards (OSHA, NFPA 79, NEC).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires wearing steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, and other PPE as designated for work zones. Must remain alert to forklift and overhead crane movement within active production areas.
Additional Information

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Walking and performing tasks throughout an active heavy manufacturing operation.
  • Frequent walking, bending, stooping, and lifting throughout shift.
  • Exposed to elements, such as cold, heat, noise, dust, odors, fumes, etc.
  • Work schedule is primarily Monday through Friday, with weekend overtime as operationally needed.
