Primary Function of Organizational Unit
Provides leadership and direction of the Music Library and its resources and collection, and supports the Music Department.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Head Music Librarian manages the day-to-day operations of this unit and has overall responsibility for planning, developing, managing, and evaluating the facilities, services, and resources of the Music Library, a branch of the James E. Shepard Memorial Library. This is a full-time (12-month), non-tenured, leadership position reporting to the Assistant Director of Library Services. Responsibilities include: providing research, instruction and outreach services to the Music Department; collaborating with staff across the College to explore and implement information and instructional technologies; continually assessing and improving library service including our web presence and promoting library resources and services; teaching and information literacy course as a member of the library's instruction team. The librarian selects appropriate materials for the collection and seeks input from the Music faculty, provides reference assistance and performs original and copy cataloging.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum of two (2) years of post MLS/ MLIS professional librarian experience.
Experience with or interest in expanding knowledge of music as an academic and/or performance discipline, including familiarity with music research methods and resources.
An undergraduate or advanced degree in music is preferred, and /or a combination of relevant degrees and demonstrated professional experience.
Familiarity with approaches to instruction or research support in an academic library setting, which may include teaching workshops, supporting classes, supporting academic departments, creating learning materials, and providing individual research consultations.
Minimum Education/Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of post MLS/ MLIS professional librarian experience. ALA Accredited Masters.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
ALA Accredited Masters.
