About the Job

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented temporary Research Assistant to join our team for a project conducting a systematic review to synthesize existing research on the role of lichens and mosses in primary and secondary succession.

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for assisting with the literature screening and data extraction phases of the review. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in systematic review methodology.

Key responsibilities:
1. Literature Screening: Perform title, abstract, and full-text screening of academic articles.

2. Data Extraction: Meticulously and accurately extract qualitative data from all included studies into a spreadsheet. This will include (but is not limited to) study characteristics, geographic location, climate and habitat, species data, and reported outcomes.

3. Data Management: Maintain clear, accurate records of the screening and extraction process.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in ecology, environmental sciences, or equivalent experience.

-Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality, accurate work.

-Strong organizational and time-management skills.

-Ability to read, comprehend, and critically evaluate scientific journal articles.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience in ecology, environmental sciences, and/or successional ecology data collection and interpretation.

-Familiarity with reference management software (e.g., Zotero)

About the department

Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior (EEB) faculty teach undergraduate classes, advise graduate students, and conduct research in the areas of ecology, evolution, and behavior. Check out the Faculty and research section to learn more about them and their intriguing research interests.

EEB is part of the College of Biological Sciences at the University of Minnesota and is one of the University's most highly-ranked units. The department is located in the Ecology Building on the St. Paul campus, but also has two major field stations where students and faculty conduct field research. Many of the research collections of the Bell Museum are also located in the Ecology Building, and the department is an affiliated department of the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $16.50/hour
