Job Title: Business Intelligence Developer

SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The BI Developer is responsible for leading the development of reporting and analytics solutions for University's electronic health record (EHR) system by gathering business needs, documenting requirements, identifying appropriate data sources, developing reports, and delivering them to stakeholders. The BI Developer takes direction from, and collaborates with, the Assistant Director of Decision Support Services and the Senior Director, Finance Operations on work priorities and manages the resolution of escalated issues. The BI Developer will perform in depth and precise investigation and documentation of future-state reporting specifications and application reporting functionality. The BI Developer must achieve in-depth knowledge of relevant software applications as well as understand policies, procedures and constraints.

TYPE OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The BI Developer receives overall objectives, deliverables and priorities from the Assistant Director, Decision Support Services and the Senior Director, Financial Operations. The manager and team are expected to determine the most effective way to accomplish assigned tasks within the timeframes allowed, and to work independently with minimal supervision.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Meet with stakeholders to understand business needs for data requests. Gather requirements, document, clarify, interpret specifications and review for completeness and accuracy.
  • Design, develop, validate and perform thorough functional testing of extracts, reports, visualization dashboards utilizing analytics tools and data sources such as, including but not limited to: Microsoft Excel, Tableau, WebI, SSRS, Power BI, Caboodle, Clarity, Reporting Workbench, Radar Dashboards, Universes, Registry Framework and Data Marts, SlicerDicer, and other Business Intelligence Tools.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including faculty practice team members, administrators, IT staff, and vendors. Effectively communicate technical concepts and analytical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, facilitating collaboration and informed decision-making.
  • Monitor performance of BI outputs and take corrective action to optimize or improve the performance when necessary.
  • Gather, assess, and interpret substantial amounts of healthcare data, encompassing electronic health records, clinical data, financial data, and pertinent information. Offer insights and suggestions derived from the data analysis and interpretation.
  • Streamline documentation, scheduling, billing, and other administrative tasks, ultimately enhancing operational efficiency and reducing errors.
  • Provide training and support to healthcare staff on the use of health informatics tools and systems. Create educational materials, conduct workshops, and offer guidance to ensure proper utilization and understanding of dashboards, reports and other tools enabled by the team.
  • Participate in application validation and QA efforts as they pertain to data, metrics, and analytics solutions creation and execution.
  • Manage the inventory of BI objects and outputs. Assure that the metadata used for the Analytics Catalog is meaningful, standardized, complete, accurate, and up to date.
  • Manage the data model for reporting for assigned Epic applications and/or business lines.
    • Manage the inventory of Clarity & Caboodle objects used for both published and ad hoc analytics. Assure that all object metadata is meaningful, standardized, complete, accurate, and up to date.
  • Manage the measures and metrics for assigned Epic applications and/or business lines. Assure that the metadata used for the Measures and Metrics catalog is meaningful, standardized, complete, accurate, and up to date. Note the content maintained in the Epic Metrics Catalog and use that as an anchor for University metrics.
  • Review upgrade documentation related to analytics tools and content, determine the best implementation approach. Evaluate, anticipate and communicate risks to existing BI outputs and processes, and recommend ways to mitigate those risks.
