Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Director of Accommodations for the Office of Employment Equity.
This position reports to the Director, Office of Employment Equity. The Assistant Director of Accommodations leads and manages a program for ensuring the university's compliance with federal and state laws regarding reasonable workplace accommodations (disability, religion, and pregnancy), including the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended ("ADA"), and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination ("LAD") regarding all employees of Rutgers University (both staff and faculty). This position also provides expert knowledge, strategy, and guidance in the area of reasonable workplace accommodations to departments and leadership across the university.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures for reasonable workplace accommodations (disability, religion, and pregnancy).
- Oversees the interactive process for accommodation requests from faculty and staff, which involves consulting and collaborating with the employee requesting the accommodation, the employee's department, and others, as appropriate, and preparing correspondence.
- Oversees the dissemination of accommodation policy information, including in-person and virtual training.
- Ensures appropriate data collection and provides periodic reports regarding accommodation(s) requested.
- Evaluates and determines reasonable accommodations for faculty and staff based on individualized circumstances, legal requirements, and operational feasibility-often involving sensitive medical, religious, or personal information.
- Designs and updates institutional policies and procedures related to disability, religious, and pregnancy accommodations for faculty and staff, ensuring alignment with legal standards and best practices.
- Ensures the university complies with federal and state laws such as the ADA, Title VII, and the Pregnancy Discrimination Act. This includes interpreting regulations and advising on bests practices.
- Contributes to strategic planning efforts by advising senior leadership on trends, risks, and opportunities related to workplace accommodations.
- Evaluates program effectiveness and recommending improvements based on data, feedback, and evolving best practices.
- Performs other duties as necessary.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- A Masters Degree (JD highly preferred) in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Three years of relevant experience in progressively more responsible positions.

Immunization Requirements
Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply.
