For more information about the company and product line visit: www.sigsauer.com Position Summary: The Electrical Engineer II is responsible for developing complex electrical system designs for new products and improvements for legacy products. Responsibilities also include exercising sound engineering judgement and presenting analysis summaries to support design decisions. The Electrical Engineer II will work both independently and as a team with Electrical Engineers, Software Engineers, Design Engineers, and Test Technicians. FLSA: Exempt Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop innovative designs of electrical circuits and PCBAs using Altium Designer with a focus on efficiency, scalability, and maintainability, ensuring they meet product requirements and integrate seamlessly with existing systems.
- Perform electrical design reviews, ensure compliance with electrical design rules, evaluate signal integrity and power distribution, and support prototyping and bring-up activities.
- Design, implement and test power supplies, sensor interfaces, and common communication protocols as well as fieldbus systems
- Support the manufacturability of electrical systems and sub-systems by reviewing DFM feedback from vendors and implementing appropriate design solutions.
- Proactively access technical information, i.e. process records, schematics drawings, SOP's, prototype, and fixture drawings as needed to evaluate and support product design operations.
- Provide technical support to contract manufacturers and assist manufacturing in identifying and resolving electrical issues to maintain production schedules.
- Perform circuit simulation and analysis using industry-standard tools to validate design performance and support troubleshooting throughout the development process.
- Perform hardware bring-up, verification, and validation testing using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, and other lab equipment.
- Provide guidance on power system design including battery technologies, power distribution, voltage regulation, and protection circuits.
- Lead root-cause analysis of field and test failures, leveraging data-driven approaches and collaborating with cross-functional teams for rapid issue resolution.
- Manage and protect Intellectual Property (IP) through technical disclosures, patent submissions, and competitive trade studies.
- Ensure all electrical engineering work aligns with relevant regulatory, safety, and quality standards, including ITAR, UL, CE, and ISO9001/AS9100.
- Represent the company in technical forums, standards committees, and supplier engagements to promote best practices and stay abreast of industry trends.
- Contribute to strategic product planning and roadmapping, providing input on feasibility, timelines, and emerging technologies.
Education/Experience & Skills:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, and 3-6 years of previous experience as an Electrical Engineer required.
- Experience with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) or drone platforms is required.
- Proficiency in Python, C/C++, MIPS assembly, MATLAB, Lab View, NodeRED, bash and batch scrips
- Proficiency in OrCAD/PSPICE, EAGLE, LTspice, ADS, Altium, Cadence Allegro, Xpedition Designer, and Solid Works
- Proven capabilities working with all standard lab equipment and tools (soldering, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analzer, multimeter, data loggers, termal chambers
- Experience in MS Office products
- Demonstrated experience presenting and public speaking engagement
- Experience with embedded system design, microcontrollers, SoCs, FPGAs, and analog/digital signal processing.
- Proven capability in EMC/EMI design and testing, with in-depth understanding of applicable standards such as MIL-STD-461, CISPR, and FCC.
- Knowledge of power systems design, including battery management systems (BMS), DC-DC converters, and fault protection.
- Hands-on experience with system-level integration, including communication protocols (CAN, RS-485, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, etc.).
- Understanding of environmental and reliability testing (HALT, HASS, thermal cycling, vibration) and root-cause failure analysis.
- Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g., Agile, Arena), BOM management, and product lifecycle documentation.
- Skilled in technical writing and communication, including the development of detailed reports, procedures, and design documentation.
- Familiarity with DFX principles (Design for Manufacturability, Assembly, Testability) and engagement with contract manufacturers.
- Understanding of ITAR, ATF, and EAR regulations as they pertain to electrical and embedded systems.
- Experience with NATO standards, MIL-SPECs, and other relevant defense and aerospace documentation and design criteria.
Working Conditions:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
- Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
- Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
- May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
- May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
