Job Description

Position Summary:

The Quality Systems CMM Specialist is responsible to provide technical support to operations, engineering, and quality departments and support key Root Cause Corrective Action and Advanced Product Quality Planning activities. The position requires a strong understanding of converting customer's 3D representation to IGES format and PC-DMIS2014 or higher. (IGES electronic model translation) Will also require a strong working knowledge of CATIA V5. The incumbent must have 2 years or more previous experience in Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programming and operational use. The position also requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of basic inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc. They should also be familiar with the calibration requirements and activities associated with the tools.

Reporting Relationships:

The Quality Systems CMM Specialist will report to the Quality Manager.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Understand, adhere, and demonstrate to the company's commitment to QUALITY and SAFETY!
  • Confers with Quality Control, Manufacturing Engineering, and Operations to provide technical support
  • Review manufacturing and inspection processes and facilitate improvement and corrective action activities for existing products and during First Article Inspections
  • Assimilate information to enhance the RCCA & Continuous improvement processes via process capability studies
  • Provides technical risk assessment during Contract Review Process
  • Leads and participates in development of PFMEAs, Control Plans, and MSAs
  • Production Support (Special Assignments/Projects, Troubleshooting, Tooling, etc.)
  • Using IGES/CATIA electronic datasets, generate PC-DMIS CMM program inspection routines as required
  • Build CAT product within CATIA for CMM fixturing
  • Create CATIA Drawings from Model Based Definition (MBD) designs
  • Validate CATIA 3D designs for internal use
  • Conduct CMM Measurement System Analysis (MSA) / Gage R&R studies as required.
  • Using Engineering drawings, specifications, etc. for reference, CMM inspect detailed machined parts and/or assemblies for conformity to design parameters. Indicate acceptance or rejection on production documentation
  • Complete final inspection and AS9102 first article inspection sheets as required documenting product conformity.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of quality assurance procedure requirements as they apply to inspection and manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure that product/material conformity documentation received from subcontractors satisfies engineering specifications
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook and Excel is required
  • Experience using Minitab
  • Extensive experience with GD&T
  • Experience with metrology concepts
  • Experience with problem solving techniques
  • Experience with the FAI process
  • Advanced computer knowledge in PC-DMIS, CATIA V5. Baan, C++, 5.0, Minitab experience a plus.
  • Experience in machining shop with various aluminum alloys, steel and titanium is strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of measurements of different types of materials with calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Six Sigma Certification a plus
  • APQP experience a plus

Experience & Education:

  • Minimum of two years of CMM programming / operation experience working in an aerospace (or similar) machining environment with PC-DMIS for CMM with indexing heads and Laser Trackers.
  • Experience working with and supporting Quality or Process Engineering in manufacturing environment, preferably in machining.
  • Experience in the Aerospace industry is preferred.
  • CMM programming or related certification
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 2+ years of relevant experience.

Physical Demands & Working Condition:

  • May be required to move items up to 35 pounds.
  • Daily duties may require sitting, standing, bending, squatting, reaching, pushing, pulling, operating, and manipulating hand tools.
  • Daily duties may require extended duration of walking.
  • Exposed to a Manufacturing setting with heavy machinery.
