Salary: $50,000

Position Summary
The Associate Scientist will conduct experiments and develop microphysiological models of sepsis and other inflammatory conditions in the laboratory of Dr. Mohammad Kiani. Funded by several research projects and in collaboration with clinical and basic scientists at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, the Associate Scientist will be responsible for carrying out studies to investigate the effects of neutrophil-endothelial cell interaction on the inflammatory response. The appointee will also assist in the supervision of graduate students and writing of grant proposals.

The candidate should have a strong background in human and animal cell culture techniques under various conditions, an understanding of the inflammatory response especially with applications in microfluidics, organ-chip, and microphysiological systems. Hands-on experience with research protocols relating to human endothelial cells and neutrophils is required. The candidate must have a strong basic science and clinical understanding of the innate immune system and a record of peer-reviewed publications in the field. The candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work independently.

The position will be funded from funded grants.

Required Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree
* At least 4 years of directly related experience
* An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience
* An advanced degree (PhD or MD)

Required Skills and Abilities
* Strong background in human and animal cell culture techniques under various conditions
* Understanding of the inflammatory response especially with applications in microfluidics, organ-chip, and microphysiological systems.
* Hands-on experience with research protocols relating to human endothelial cells and neutrophils is required
* Strong basic science and clinical understanding of the innate immune system and a record of peer-reviewed publications in the field
