Overview
The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Locksmith for the Police Department.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Primarily responsible for the planning and coordination of such locksmithing duties as the servicing of lock failures, cutting of duplicate keys, the installation and repairs of door checks, panic bars, buzzer systems, and security detection devices of all types.
  • Pins and repairs locks; repairs and/or replaces doors.
  • Performs the duties of Locksmith
  • Cleans shop and work areas.
  • Detects faulty operation of equipment; reports questionable conditions to supervisor; issues work orders to supervisor as necessary.
  • Conducts inventory of equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Advises management when to reorder stock.
  • Responsible for estimating work time, writing up lists of appropriate and needed materials, and providing such materials for him/herself or the group.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Provides guidance and instruction to craft trainees.
  • Responsible for the repair and maintenance of University facilities, supplies and materials, and prioritizing and estimating work.
  • Notifies supervisor of any emergent problems discovered through performance of assigned duties.
  • Secondarily responsible for planning and performing repair and preventive maintenance duties for various types of University property and equipment.
  • Inputs data as required to fulfill job responsibilities using current technology.
  • Generates and completes automated work orders or service orders.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • High school/vocational school education or equivalent.
Certifications/Licenses

  • A valid New Jersey Locksmith and Burglar Alarm License.
  • A valid driver's license with two years driving experience is necessary.
  • Will be required to successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
  • May be required to obtain Commercial Driver's License.
  • Will be required to obtain PSP certification within one year of appointment.
  • Must maintain licenses while in job title.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be competent in performing complex and varied repair and installation of locking devices including electronic locking devices.
Preferred Qualifications

  • May be required to obtain Commercial Driver's License.
