About the opportunity

The Technology Infrastructure Cloud Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining cloud-based and on-premises infrastructure solutions that support the organization's business applications and IT operations. This role focuses on Azure platform engineering, including VM builds, Azure Files migrations, Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) performance, and cloud networking. The engineer will also assist in automation, process improvement, cost management, and supporting DevOps initiatives. The role requires strong collaboration with senior engineers, application teams, and security to ensure systems are reliable, secure, and optimized for performance and cost.

This is a full time, salaried position with the ability to work remotely, remote/office hybrid, or full-time in an office based in the United States.

What you will accomplish

Cloud Infrastructure (Azure)

  • Build, configure, and standardize Azure Virtual Machines (VMs) in alignment with company templates and best practices.
  • Manage and migrate Azure Files, ensuring availability, access control, and performance optimization.
  • Support and enhance Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments, with special focus on GIS and CAD user workloads.
  • Implement and test Azure Backup and Restore processes to meet RPO/RTO requirements.
  • Perform Azure Network troubleshooting (VNets, NSGs, routing, VPN, ExpressRoute, etc.).
  • Support Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) deployments and automation using ARM, Bicep, or Terraform templates.

On-Premises and Hybrid Infrastructure

  • Support on-prem server administration, including Windows Server builds, patching, and lifecycle management.
  • Maintain hybrid integrations between on-prem systems and Azure.
  • Ensure all systems are up-to-date with security patches and comply with corporate policies.

Operations and Support

  • Provide tier level 2-3 support for infrastructure issues and incidents.
  • Assist the Sr. Infrastructure Cloud Engineer in architecture design, documentation, and operational improvements.
  • Participate in backup recovery testing, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
  • Support DevOps pipelines and deployments as needed.

Optimization and Governance

  • Contribute to process improvement and automation of repetitive tasks (PowerShell, Azure Automation, etc.).
  • Produce and maintain cost reporting for Azure services; identify opportunities for optimization and right-sizing.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational security, governance, and operational standards.

ArcGIS Enterprise Support & Administration

Server Maintenance

  • Plan and apply ArcGIS Server, Portal, and Data Store updates/patches with IT coordination.
  • Validate compatibility, document versions, and perform post-patch testing.

User & Account Management

  • Create, configure, and manage GIS user accounts, roles, and licenses.
  • Handle account terminations, content transfers, and archival.

Certificates & Security

  • Monitor and renew SSL certificates for Portal, Server, and Web Adaptors.
  • Enforce HTTPS and role-based access; integrate with AD/SSO as needed.

Backup & Recovery

  • Schedule and validate regular backups; perform test restores.
  • Document recovery steps for disaster recovery readiness.

Monitoring & Optimization

  • Track system performance, logs, and alerts.
  • Tune services, caching, and pooling for optimal performance.

Documentation & Collaboration

  • Maintain configuration and change documentation.
  • Collaborate with IT and GIS teams; provide Tier 2/3 support and training.

Planning & Improvement

  • Assess and enhance system performance, scalability, and new feature adoption.

Experience and qualifications for success

Required

  • University degree or college diploma in Systems Administration, Network Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure engineering (Azure preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with Azure IaaS, Azure Files, and AVD.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and networking fundamentals.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Experience with backup/restore operations and disaster recovery planning.
  • Understanding of DevOps concepts and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps).

Preferred

  • Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-104, AZ-305, or AZ-700).
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (ARM/Bicep/Terraform).
  • Familiarity with GIS or CAD workloads in virtual environments.
  • Basic understanding of Linux and container technologies (optional).

An employee in this Corporate based position can expect a salary between $79,747-$117,514/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
