*Description*
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll empower high-performance security teams by shaping the future of our client's cutting-edge security analytics platform. Our client is looking for self-starters who are committed to excellence, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and are excited to improve the lives of security teams. Your primary responsibilities will revolve around the customer deployment life cycle. Some of the time is on the product deployment side. But a lot of it is in other areas, constantly talking and teaching them and showing them what's going on, gathering more requirements, bringing that back to the engineering team or developing something and prototyping it with the customer. It will quickly taper off after the first couple of weeks to five to six hours per week in the next month and maybe down to a couple of hours a month going forward unless there's some like sort of constant engagement with the customer because they're super aggressive and want to keep growing use cases of the product, in which case you would work with them to add those. You'll pick up additional customers from deployments as appropriate. 3 major areas of responsibility: 1. Deploying the product. * Downloading containers from an elastic container repository, running scripts, modifying some parameters and python scripts, integrating other systems like adding tokens, or tweaking OAuth so that we can connect up to the customer's Splunk instance or their Jira instances, etc. * Making sure that the system is up and running, the logging is working, forwarding logs, making sure that all of the secure deployment guidance has been followed. * There's a lot of interconnectivity and communication between the multiple containers. The candidate will need to understand basic constructs around AWS and containerization, and be very proficient in knowing if a container is running, how much memory consumption it has, is it erroring out, etc. * Troubleshooting a very complex system. * Some degree of python expertise, not developer expertise, but you've got to be really comfortable understanding basic python constructs. You've got to understand basic constructs around bash. 2. Domain expertise as related to cybersecurity operations because it's a product that's in service of the security operations team. * Understand what alerts are, what threat hunt means, what kill chain means, how to investigate something from point A to point B. When the customer says, I can't figure out the chain of custody, they should know what that means. They will need to ask good questions and capture feedback, and be a domain expert, almost like a part product manager. 3. The extension of the product with the customer as they're having this product management conversation. * Identify customer desires for additional use cases and implementing use cases for the customer, learning more use cases in a consultative way from the customer. * Need to be comfortable with API driven authentication, and be able to wire it up with product API or the CLI to satisfy additional use cases, and then know enough about the domain that they can ask the right questions to build something that's satisfactory for the customer. * Be comfortable with a number of different tools like Splunk or Microsoft Sentinel, and others to do thinks like building a Splunk dashboard, etc that extends the use case of the product at a customer with that specific tool, like Splunk, etc. * You will work closely with client Engineering to get the prototypes into the core product Required Experience: *Deep understanding of cybersecurity operations domain use cases and workflows. Understand what alerts are, what threat hunt means, what kill chain means, how to investigate something from point A to point B. * Experience building or supporting security products, deploying security products, and integrating them with other systems *Experience with Python *Familiarity with deploying applications on cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure *Docker containers * Excellent technical troubleshooting skills *Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% *Are an effective communicator who can translate highly complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences with empathy and depth *Embed with strategic customers to understand their business challenges and technical requirements in detail *Contribute to the internal knowledge base, best practices and sharing insights gained from customer engagements to grow the Forward Deployed Engineering function from scratch *You will write documentation to communicate your work with customers and engineering teams. Education: *5-10 years of experience in software or customer engineering roles with a strong emphasis on customer facing engagements *Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field. Ideal, but Not Required Experience: *Azure, GCP infrastructure, *Kubernetes containers * Go, Typescript *Hands-on experience with AI systems, machine learning models and agentic frameworks *Experience working on a security team *A track record of thriving in fast-paced, agile environments with continuous integration and deployment *Job Type & Location* This is a Contract position based out of Chicago, IL. *Pay and Benefits* The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $80.00/hr.
