Position Overview
The agent in this position will develop, market, implement, and evaluate a plan of work in Family & Consumer Sciences that leads to improved quality of life for Cleveland County families and individuals. This plan of work will shape and guide informal educational programs and learning activities that help citizens develop the knowledge and skills needed to make healthy food choices, improve health & wellness through diet & physical activity, prepare nutritious meals at home, use local foods, practice food safety principles, stretch the food dollar, maximize food assistance benefits, and safely preserve food at home.
Additionally, the position will collaborate with community agencies and organizations to address local needs related to kinship care and food insecurity. The position will serve as the agent liaison for the Cleveland County Extension & Community Association, providing leadership, supervision and assistance to the organization and creating opportunities for members to serve as Extension volunteers.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, Cooperative Extension field faculty deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens.
Other Work/Responsibilities
The agent will demonstrate to stakeholders, colleagues, partners and others that their work is based on local needs and priorities and generates intended outcomes & impacts. They will also demonstrate that their program is aligned with statewide priorities to facilitate the collective impact of Extension across the state.
The agent will be evaluated during the performance cycle on their progress in meeting NC State Extension's organizational goals, which include:

Minimum Experience/Education
One of the following educational requirements: - A Bachelor's degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 in family and consumer sciences (formerly known as home economics) or a related field (based on a 4.0 scale). The minimum GPA requirement will be waived for NCCE Program Associates with a Bachelor's degree. - A Bachelor's degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master's degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one degree in family and consumer sciences (formerly known as home economics) or a related field, or - Completion of a Master's degree with at least one degree in family and consumer sciences (formerly known as home economics) or a related field.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
A Master's degree at the time of hiring is desirable, with at least one degree in family and consumer sciences, nutrition, or related science. The expectation is that a Master's degree will be pursued after hiring. NC State University offers a tuition waiver and professional development program that makes earning the degree possible while on the job.

Valid Driver's License and reliable, personal transportation required. Valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
