Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 8 years of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications
At least 10 years of experience with Land Grant/Extension program IT support.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for technical support, training delivery, project management in a variety of statewide locations and is the supervisor for members of the OIT Field Service Operations Team.
This is a specialized, highly responsible position requiring a broad understanding of information technologies in the modern enterprise. The IT Manager for Field Service Operations is typically expected to be the local IT expert for each UGA Extension office with the ability to prescribe, configure, secure, deploy and support software, hardware resources, server and storage systems and networking infrastructure. A person in this position must be able to strategically evaluate and prescribe technological solutions necessary to meet the operational needs of the local office while adhering to the requirements of existing laws, standards and policies. Tactically, the IT Manager for Field Service Operations must be capable of triaging technological issues; reconciling competing priorities, communicating effectively; demonstrating exceptional customer service; and exhibiting the capacity to independently research, assess and adapt to changing technologies.

This position also supervises and directs the work of the state-wide Field Service Operations team which is a part of the Client Services division of the Office of Information Technology and reports to the Associate Director of the Office of Information Technology for Client Services.

  • Manage hiring and training of new staff within the team.

  • Provide direct, timely, hands-on technology support to the client including the diagnosis and resolution of issues with standalone or interconnected hardware, software, peripherals, and network devices.

  • Coordinate with state, regional and local UGA management as well as local government and UGA EITS IT personnel to 1) ensure staff have appropriate and consistent access to UGA IT resources and information systems; 2) assist in the planning, development, organization and delivery of training events/programs; and 3) make recommendations for IT solutions and implementation strategies appropriate for meeting the goals and objectives of projects, grants and/or other initiatives.

  • Consult with clientele to assess operational requirements for technology systems and services, evaluate options for addressing the client's needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Establish and nurture vendor relationships and partner with appropriate UGA entities to best facilitate the evaluation, specification, procurement and deployment of information technology resources and solutions.
  • Assist the organization in performing life-cycle management, inventory control and the surplus of information technology resources.

  • Manage all aspects of the data networks used by many off-campus facilities across the state (including UGA Extension Offices).
  • This work includes coordinating with contractors, vendors and others in planning, designing, implementing, inspecting and testing networks in new or renovated facilities; procurement, configuration, deployment and management of network devices; assessment and recommendation of local Internet Service Provider (ISP) vendors; and the creation and management of user accounts and user groups.
