Position Overview

The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This list of duties is illustrative only and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.

Position Summary

The Technology Specialist supervises the day-to-day operations of the ENMU-Ruidoso classroom technology. Identifies, researches, and resolves complex technical problems, while ensuring service levels are maintained. Documents, tracks, and monitors problems to ensure resolution in a timely manner under the supervision of the Manager of Campus Technology.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

Typical duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and basic repairs of computer labs, classroom instructor workstations, printers, A/V equipment in classrooms, and large venue areas.
  • Recommend replacement and upgrades to equipment and software, as necessary.
  • Operate videoconference equipment for classes and meetings as needed.
  • Serve as the campus liaison for all projects involving classroom technology. Schedule maintenance, repair activities, and plans for replacement contingencies for classrooms and labs.
  • Provide technical support for classroom and campus printers, printer servers, and pay-for-print system.
  • Coordinate the delivery of technology support for classroom media systems and instructional technology program systems.
  • Assist in the installation of instrumented classroom and computer lab equipment and software.
  • Check and test computer lab equipment to ensure proper functionality.
  • Train students, faculty, and staff on proper usage of presentation equipment.
  • Manage the service desk by monitoring incoming service desk emails and responding in a timely manner.
  • Solve problems and make decisions relative to service desk responsibilities.
  • Ensure that timely service desk representation takes place for the coordination of work processes and projects with all departments and divisions.
  • Responsible for maintenance and technology needs of campus nursing simulation room in conjunction with appropriate partners.
  • Provide business, educational, and Microsoft Office application support.
  • Stay current with emerging office technologies and recommend and implement improvements.
  • Responsible for inventory and asset tagging of all technology being deployed across campus.
  • Maintain professionalism when dealing with staff and other customers to foster positive working relationships.
  • Carry out all responsibilities and objectives in a professional manner.
  • Serve as backup administrator to the campus website.
  • Ensure all servers are backed up on a daily, weekly schedule.
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Information Technology or a closely related field with the appropriate certification or ability to become certified in a timely manner. Examples of certifications: A+ certification or any Microsoft certification.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with room automation technology

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to independently apply technical judgement; solve a wide range of problems; develop practicable and thorough solutions; use effective communication and listening skills; and apply consultative skills to assess user needs and provide appropriate support.
  • Ability to read and understand relatively complex technical instructions and operating manuals.
  • Possess and development of a working knowledge of Windows and Macintosh operating systems, internet browsers, ticketing systems, device scanning and end-point security systems and A/V equipment in classrooms and large venue areas.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (specifically, Word, Excel, and Outlook) to implement, develop, and maintain computer-based business operations.
  • Basic system administration skills such as installing or configuring software, drivers, operating systems, user accounts, and profiles.
  • Troubleshooting skills include diagnosing user support issues and assessing end-point security configuration.
  • Hardware support skills such as the ability to assemble computer parts and attach cables, maintain printers, scanners, other desktop peripherals, and A/V equipment.
  • Should possess familiarity with basic theory and operation of computers, computer operating systems, and application software, device drivers, and security fundamentals.
  • Must possess a basic understanding of networking protocols such as TCP/IP.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines. Work is sedentary in nature, which at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a consistent amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
