Job Summary: The Director-Registration directs and coordinates the daily registration and financial counseling activities related to the overall operation of the hospital-based outpatient clinics, emergency department and admitting/inpatient units at the Loma Linda University main campus Medical Center, East Campus, and Surgical Hospital and Loma Linda University Children's Hospital locations. Ensures all aspects are working smoothly, effectively and efficiently and in accordance with all Loma Linda University Health (LLUH), departmental, county, state and federal rules and regulations. Works closely with other revenue cycle and hospital leaders to optimize workflows, enhance patient experience and meet the initiatives of the organization. Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in related field required. Minimum three years hospital-based in a large hospital or acute care setting required, preferably specializing in managed care, Medi-Cal, Medicare, Worker's Compensation and California Children's Services with emphasis on Federal, State and County eligibility regulations. Minimum five years of supervisory or managerial experience required. Experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Knowledge and Skills: Working knowledge of hospital patient access and revenue functions (including insurance verification, interpretation of coverage, authorizations, financial impact and collection methods) and medical terminology. Demonstrated skill in independently identifying workflow, patient flow, personnel and procedural problems and implementing viable solutions. Detailed knowledge of current Joint Commission, California state and federal requirements pertaining to hospital operations. Able to read, write and speak with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access; operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
Licensures and Certifications: Certifications from the Department of Social Services in Hospital Presumptive Eligibility, Newborn Gateway Presumptive Eligibility, Children's Presumptive Eligibility, Presumptive Eligibility for Pregnant Women required within 18 months of hire.
